Description
still money left to sign a player or two, plus instead of re-signing Nathan Beaulieu, a bigger ticket dman like Jake Gardiner could maybe be signed for around 6/yr ? This will still be a very competitive team. Anyone thinking that Laine is overpaid will realize next year that this is a steal as he will be back with a vengeance to prove all wrong.

Looks fine but I don’t understand the Beaulieu raise. He was scratched in Buffalo and in Winnipeg aswell. I like his game but he should be making less than he did last year on a 1/2 year term.

Just some small things, but I don't see us signing Stralman when we can just use Poolman, and Niku should be starting next year, so one of Chiarot/Beaulieu shouldn't be re-signed. Morrow should be resigned instead of one of those two to be depth. I also don't see us signing Chiasson when we can just use Appleton.

yea this is a bit complicated. He played well when Morrisey went down, the issue here is he is an rfa and all rfa's have to be offered give a qualifying offer of at least a 10% raise from there previous year, unless they don't offer him the qualifying offer which in point he becomes a UFA, then they try to re-sign him for less money but then other teams will have a crack at him too. So it is a bit of a gamble, Nathan is better then Kulikov so in that sense that is why I had that 10% qualifying offer to him

The Islanders aren't making that trade.
Really think expectations are gonna have to be lowered for the Trouba return, other GM'S know the situation and just aren't gonna be willing to offer that much.
Also should expect an unexpected player to be moved this summer but who? Buff? Ehlers? Scheiffele?

No way Scheifele goes.

All good points, I thought about that too, where Niku starts and Poolman and Morrow are the extra depth rd man and no Stralman. which of course would save a fair bit of money and I thought about like you mentioned not signing Beaulieu but using that to sign a player like Jake Gardiner but he may be too rich.. or maybe going with less expensive dman and trying to keep Kevin Hayes.. But will the money work for next year when Morrisey, Roslovic, Niku need to be re-signed. Whatever happens the Jets will still have a great team!!

Who knows what uncle Lou will do out East with the Islanders, he may just like Trouba a lot and offer that. I could see maybe Ehlers being shopped but I doubt any of them will be moved this year unless Laine is asking for the moon then maybe he will be moved wink

From what I've heard that Friedman is saying is that Laine wants the equivalent or more then Marner wants/gets so I wonder if that isn't just a ploy to force a trade or an offersheet maybe cause Laine wants out already.
He didn't enjoy this season one bit and neither did a lot of other guys on the Jets, could be a more interesting off season then we think...

I disagree about the Trouba comment.
Regardless of knowing the situation, this is a good opportunity for an American team to add a 1rhd...these don't come around often.

It's an interesting trade imo.

I agree here.... I understand why people think the situation might limit the return on Trouba, but if 2 or more teams become interested... and there's no reason to think they won't... the best offer will get the player. That's how I think the price will drive itself back up again.

Idk man, I think that's easier said than done. I really don't see any teams making a E.Karlsson move for Trouba so that just leaves teams that can think they can sign him long term which limits the number of teams substantially.

Well..since you went there with the Karlsson comparison, Trouba is younger and healthy both of which Karlsson is not.
American teams do have realistic chance of signing Trouba because they are not hindered by the same things Canadian teams are.

It's a different situation... Different style of player... and different projected cap hit. Frankly, I would say Trouba has more trade value than Karlsson. He's more versatile, more durable, and will come at a cheaper cap price tag. RHS shut down D are hard to find... specifically one at 25 years of age with 400 games experience. I think we might be surprised how big the market for him actually is.
