NYR Trade Skinner and Hayes

Created by: Oddball5
Team: 2019-20 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: May 31, 2019
Published: May 31, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade for Chris Kreider; a big, strong, physical winger who can score and has chemistry with Jack. Gives the top 6 some flexibility.

Sign Skinner to just under the 9 million that is expected (who really cares about $250,000 anyway). Starts the season with Jack but again gives the top 6 flexibility with him and Kreider able to back and forth.

Sign Kevin Hayes to take over the 2C position until Mittelstadt is ready or Turcotte comes up to the Big Club. Can also not sign Hayes and give Mittelstadt a shot with two higher upside wingers and a year under his belt. Then spend the money on a legitimate 3C that could move up if Mittelstadt struggles.

Draft Turcotte at 7 ( or Dach/Cozens/Zegras/Caulfield/etc/etc/etc) and move on from some heavier contracts in Scandella and Sobotka.

$31,000,000 in cap space next year to sign Sam, Pilut, Tage, Mitts, Montour, and Kreider and probably still have some room for a move or two at the deadline or offseason if it's necessary.

Not trading that package for kreider if it doesn't come with a reasonable extension.

The extension would be discussed in advance, but wait until after Feb 1 for the extra year. If Botts doesn't want the extra year, Kreider just signs when he gets here. I would also not do this trade without the understanding that Kreider would resign.

Doubt that Turcotte will still be there at 7.
The way I see it it's between him and Byram to be selected by the Hawks. And Colorado will get the other one

I tend to agree, definitely optimistic on my part. Regardless, one of Zegras, Cozens, Dach, Podkolzin, Caulfield will be available which changes the outlook, but not too drastically, at least for this year.

Rangers wouldn't take that trade. Nylander doesn't have much value, Girgensons has even less, and they could get a higher pick for Kreider

The first problem with the Ranger trade is that the Dallas pick becomes a 1st if they resign Zuccarello so until that is resolved the pick won't be traded. But as a Ranger fan I wouldn't add anything to Kreider anyway. The going rate for someone like Kreider is a 1st and a prospect. Unfortunately, though technically a 1st, that St Louis pick has turned into #30 at best, so the prospect would have to be really good. But Nylander and Girgensons aren't really prospects.
If you change the 1st to the Buffalo 2020 the Rangers have to think about it. Maybe add a pick for 2021 that is conditional on Kreider resigning.

Honestly can't think of a great Buffalo package for Kreider.

With extension it's probably something like Nylander + Montour + 2020 1st.

You won't like that. But that's as close as we can get to the value with your assets.
