Is this really happening MarleauZaitsev moves

Description
If LA wants Toronto to take Kovalchuk they have to retain and take Zaitsev as well. He's easy to buy out in 2022 when they might need the cap space.

Maybe Calgary needs more but I think Hamonic is a guy they can use to free up some room to sign RFA's. They will want to move Brodie instead but I think Hamonic is a perfect partner for Rielly. And I think we've all resigned ourselves to seeing Brown moved for a third. You can include that pick into the Calgary trade if it needs balancing.

It looks to me like LA is getting fleeced but I know they desperately want to dump Kovalchuk and I think Zaitsev definitely helps them on D. Potentially would add a B type prospect like a Timoshov.

Marlo = 1 year
Kovy = 3 years

One is 3 times worse than the other.

Zaitsev is neutral ... every borderline top 4 defensmen will be signing for $5,000,000+ going forward ... his contract isn't that bad ... neither is Zaitsev.

Zatisev isn’t neutral.....he’s not a borderline top 4 defender....his contract is bad in comparison to his on ice performance....he’s a bad defender.

Yeah you probably just read forums instead of watching him play ... he played like a $7,000,000 defender in the playoffs ... and he's been playing up to his contract all year.

He might be the best actual defender on the Leafs ....

For reference ... he's one of least sheltered 2nd line defenders in the NHL ... and he starts most of his shifts in the defensive zone.

The Kings don't desperately want to dump Kovalchuk. They're open to moving his contract to give Kovalchuk a shot at a Cup and to get back a decent asset or two, but they're not going to pay to get rid of him. Especially with Prokhorkin coming over from Russia, the Kings could use a native Russian speaker to help the rookie acclimate to North America. They're perfectly content to let him complete his contract in LA.
