We need someone who is more defense first to play with Provorov. Hence the interest in Spurgeon. Ristolainen doesn’t fit our need.

Thanks! I’m not a Flyers fan, but I follow the entire league. I was just thinking of ways to improve this team. I thought giving young guys like Frost and Ratcliffe opportunities rather than overspending in free agency would be the best route to go.

When I took a look at the roster and organizational depth, I noticed some holes on the right side defense. Both players in this trade bring different qualities to their teams but both would bring what each organization is looking for.

Are you excited for a full year of Carter Hart and do you think guys like Morgan Frost and Isaac Ratcliffe make the team? I think Joel Farabee is still a year away.

Spurgeon could be a fit as Chuck Fletcher was the one who found Spurgeon and made him the player he is currently in Minnesota.

Absolutely A Provorov/Spurgeon pair is exciting to think about

What do you think it would take to acquire Spurgeon? It wouldn’t make sense to acquire him as a rental and Minnesota is looking for scoring, specifically those with right shots.

I’d start with11oa and see where it leads. I’m confident we can resign him.

That would be interesting as Minnesota has 12 overall in this year’s draft. Two players just outside the top 10? That could be attractive to that franchise.

Farabee probably had the best shot to make the roster. Frost needs to add some size and Ratcliffe needs to work on his foot speed

Most Flyers fans will tell you that it’s actually the opposite with our prospects, I think the general consensus is that Farabee is closer to NHL ready than Frost/Ratcliffe. He plays a stronger 2 way game and has played against better competition than the other 2, the only reason I don’t the he makes the team out of camp is because we’re loaded at LW and he needs to get stronger.

I definitely agree we shouldn’t do anything stupid with our cap space, but we have enough young players on the roster/enough money to spend that we don’t need to rush our young forward prospects. I definatley think Fletcher will try to add a forward or two this offseason

Give me Anisimov and a resigned Spurgeon and get our RFAs signed and I’m good. Avoid the Hayes and Duchenes. Obviously keep a close eye on the Marner situation as well.

I agree. I don’t think this team needs another player making over $7mil a year when they already have three.

I think Trouba is a better option than Spurgeon at this point but I completely agree

I'd pass as a Sabres fan. No need for Ghost especially adding a second

Buffalo says no.. its an interesting idea, but I don't think Buffalo is actively looking to get rid of Risto, so the deal would have to really be in Buffalo's favor for them to pull the trigger.. most of the trade Risto noise is just from the fans. Not saying Buffalo is against trading him.. just don't need to.

I think Gostisbehere has a great resume and will have a great future and this could be a good trade for both teams.
I really like Spurgeon and he also has a great resume, but at 5'9" (do you think that he may actually be shorter), I would prefer the bigger players
I am a Sabre's fan and I would rather keep Ristolainen. His CF% is higher than his OZ% while both Spurgeon and Gostisbehere are the reverse, his hits/60 is nearly 3 times Spurgeon and 4 times Gostisbehere. He does trail in blocked shots but only by 10%. He gets the tough assignments and of course has a very bad +/-.
More importantly he is younger than either and much larger than either one. IMO we have not seen the best of Rasmus and it would take a huge over payment for Betterall to move him.
Let me remind every one Chara was -27 twice when he was 23 and 24 and did not reach 40 pts until he was 26.
All of this is not to disparage Spurgeon or Gostisbehere merely to emphasize that I will give Rasmus at least 3 more years before considering trading him away.
