Post Cup Win

Description
This is made much easier if Backes decides to hang em up after the Cup win. His concussions are piling up and I think he'd be happy to leave on a high note. I also tried to leave a couple mil in cap space free to combine with Beleskey's salary retention coming off the books next year so they can pay Debrusk when he's up.

The money for Carlo and Mcavoy is fine if those are for 8 years. Real tough to give them that money for player friendly term. Also, Mcavoy isn’t signing anything longer than 4 years.

I like Carlo but not sure he a 5 year 5M AAV guy .. yet .. he perfect candidate for a 3 year $10M bridge .. cant be emotional on Johannssen and all current players.. need to leave 1 or 2 slots open for Providence guys .. personally I would KEEP johannssen and trade heinen for a RD and let 1 of 4th liners go

Why would you trade for a RD? Do you mean a prospect or roster player?

Why would you trade for a left d? If anything they should be trading a left d. Lauzon and Vaakanainen are both ready and waiting.

Wait, Chara Krug and grizz aren’t strong? What???

I think you need guys like Heinen to fill in some spots otherwise you'll be overloading the roster with 4-5 mil/year guys. I think it;s tough to give up Krug. he's the main reason our powerplay is the weapon that it is. Chara will retire soon enough then there's 2 more mil to pay someone else.

They still have Vaak, Lauzon, Zboril all waiting in the wings to get their chance. Grzelcyk is only 25yr old and is a great 3rd pairing/good serviceable 2nd pairing guy. Krug is an elite point producing d-man that plays in the top 4 now. Grzelcyk has played with McAvoy before when injuries came and they played together as a pair for BU. Is Grz a true 1st pairing guy? no, but how many teams have their 1st pairing as "legit" 1st pairing guys?

As for the OP...

-JFK is heading to Sweden
-Zane I'd be shocked if he returns. They have Rask, Halak, Vladar and Keyser all under contract with Swayman entering his Jr year of NCAA.

I think moving on from Krug is the play (possibly packaging Heinen with him to get back something decent). Krug could require a lengthy contract at his age, size and durabiiity is pretty high risk. Fluto did a pretty good breakdown on him for The Athletic. Also, if we sign krug and protect him it leaves open younder guys for Seattle to pick off, but if we get rid of Krug and protect whoever his replacement would be you'd be in the same boat, so who knows.

I havn't seen much from Heinen other than him being versitile and consistantly "OK", that can be found elsewhere.
