One of the most reasonable Toronto cap dump trades I have seen. Certainly in the ball park. Nice job.

Detroit immediately hangs up the phone. You can keep your over-priced, oft-injured goalie and we'll keep our incredibly highly rated young power forward, thanks.

So we "dump" Marleau and start it all over again with Brown for next three years, with packing Kapanen and Zaitsev lost into the mix.....

Nope.

Let me guess. You are one of those maple leaf fans who think teams are banging down the door to get Marleau the player and Zaitsev he player. The only reason teams are showing interest in either one are because of what Toronto will need to include to move them. (i.e good players/picks/prospects, or bad contracts the other way). Essentially this trade includes both, 2 cap dumps for players whose bad contract terms far outweigh any benefit they bring to the ice, in return a bad contract going the other way and a good player to the Kings. Toronto actually gets a serviceable cheap RD in addition.

wrong

Both sides are dumping cap here....TML 1M more with Marleau but gets back three years instead of one. Zaitsev isnt Cap dump, hes decent second Pair player so you get AHLer in the return...the main piece of trade is Kapanen and Campbell....and here the trade value falls even more, cause weve seen bunch of Goalies who were great back-ups ( Bernier comes to mind ) but failed to be the answer at 60 Games goaltending....

LeBrun said any deal LA makes would need to send salary with term back, so Brown makes sense. No one with any credibility has given any indication that isn't the basis of what a deal between them would need to look like to get done. Brown has played well and could add the physicality the Leafs could use.

When Marleau came to TML he also had numbers to show...pretty much the same ones as Brown now. I never said TML should just get things solved and take nothing back cause those other 30 Teams arent here to solve TML problems for free. But three years of Brown doesnt weight out losing one year of Marleau. I rather stick with Marleau for one more year then go thru whole "declining expensive vet"process with Brown again....

and on top of that those two other pieces in trade makes the above said look even worse.....

Oh I agree with the extra pieces making the deal look bad. It would likely be something like Brown for Marleau straight up in the scenario I mentioned. Leafs might save cap if they immediately bought Brown out or at least spread it over 6 years.

hahahahha all leafs fans acting like Marleau and Zaitsev actually have value is funny... the leafs who are in absolute desperation of "top 4 right handed defencemen" are trying to trade a "top 4 right handed defenceman"??????? why would you trade a position that you clearly lack unless you know hes not good enough? thats exactly it... hes not a top 4 D hes a bottom pair making 4.5 mil. and the fact that leafs fans think theyre gonna get something back/not have to take a bad contract for a 40 year old making over 6 mil is absurd, even tho it is only 1 year left on his deal

Keep him then

i want them to keep him, i dont think any kings fan wants him gone. people who trade him on this site are people who dont watch the kings and dont understand hes still a good player. all they look at is his age and salary and dont see his goal total in the 30s and say "bad contract"
