The trade is interesting. I think the problem here is getting Duchene to sign in Minnesota.

Ehlers is better than Zucker. We'd have to be adding here

You've gotta add if you want Ehlers.

Winnipeg is likely to be on Zucker's no trade list so if he doesn't waive you're looking for another trade partner.

What would you think of Zucker and Ek for Ehlers?

Russo brought up that Ehlers was the likely target if a trade happened with the Jets and he indicated that the Jets are interested in Zucker.

Zucker's NTC doesn't kick in until July 1 and even then it's only 10 teams. Winnipeg would at least keep him close to his current home.

Didn't know that, so that must be why they're so eager to move him.

How much more do you think is needed? Player, pick, prospect, multiple things, etc?

@wildwinswhen

I think you will need a pick like a 2 or a prospect.

The Jeff Skinner deal pretty much set the market for Matt Duchene, Duchene will get either 7 x 9.5 or possibly 7 x 10 no way he's accepting $8 million per.

I heard that! My main issue with acquiring Ehlers is the fact he's a left shot. I love the player, but having 1 right shot in our top 9 really limited our scoring effectiveness last year. Ek and Zucker sounds close to me. Still not sure if it's enough, but it's better. If we made a trade like that, I'd hope there's a subsequent move to get us a right shot center (like a Spurgeon for Patrick type trade).

Good point. I'm probably light on Duchene. This build would need to buy out Rask to get that extra 3M in space, which I don't think GMPF will do.

There’d have to be a subsequent trade to make the top 9 more effective.
Fenton reiterated again his plan to extend Spurgeon, I just doubt Spurgeon wants to stay at this point, so capturing his potential seems reasonable (and I can't believe I am actually in favor of trading my favorite Wild player).

That's what he says, but Marc Bergevin said he wasn't shopping PK Subban and look how that turned out... You never know, but I agree with you that Spurgeon probably doesn't (or at least he shouldn't) see us being a legitimate contender for a couple years. I'd be devastated losing Spurgeon, but if he gets us a talented potential 1C, I'll be extremely happy. I'd be even more happy if I got to see him lift a cup on his new team
