Description
For the record, I would not sign either player. I prefer the Wild stop with the band-aids and commit to a rebuild and acquire youth and picks, but...Wild owner Craig Leipold is a complete idiot, so more band-aids it is...

This would, however, be a pretty decent compromise by being competitive and adding picks.

Calgary would have to dump other players in other deals.
Which I'm okay with, but the Zucker deal puts severe limitations to it

I've been meaning to ask you @MNBassman, with the owner wanting to contend, why isn't trading Dumba an option?
If contention is what the goal is, the Wild would still have Spurgeon, Suter and company to be a contender and trading Dumba would make them stronger? No?

I agree. Get the pieces you need through trades and the draft, not free agency. I think Spurgeon likely hits the trade market once he hears Fenton's plan for this team...

Not the one you asked, but Dumba is basically the best known-commodity we have for the present and future. Of course Kaprizov and Boldy are potentially great future pieces, but what I mean is that Dumba is the only player we know is and will be a stud. Kaprizov and Boldy could be, but we don't know yet since neither are in the NHL. I think that reason alone puts him in the untouchable catagory for this team. He's signed to an extremely team-friendly deal as well which is another reason to keep him. He's also apparently huge in the locker room and is kind of the bridge between the younger and older guys, so trading him could cause even more of a divide in our locker room... Hopefully that answers your question

Do you think Calgary does this move without sending salary out the other way??

Probably not, but I guess it depends on what Tkachuk is asking for. Could be any team though, as @MNBassman said in the trade. I'd be really interested in seeing if we could send Zucker to the NYI for their 1st next year if they miss out on Panarin and Lee decides to walk in free agency. Trotz is a great coach and all, but I think they greatly over performed last season and that 1st could be a lottery pick next year.

Your opinion is most welcomed my friend.
I understand what you are saying but if the owner wants a serious contender right now then Dumba will instantly get you that.

Futures wise, there's no arguments to be made. Dumba would be a keeper in any futures scenario but the idea of contention was for now.

That's very true. And a supporting piece of evidence to your point is the Zucker for Kessel trade that was shot down... If you look at every trade Fenton made (and what he said publicly), he got younger and faster (except for the Rask deal). Swapping a younger player like Zucker for an aging winner Kessel makes zero sense unless there's pressure from the owner to contend (and our beat writer has said that this was the case). Maybe if Dumba has a rocky year returning from injury our owner gets impatient and forces Fenton to explore the market (which would be a major mistake in my opinion), but right now I think he realizes how important Dumba was for our team. Another hypothetical here, but I wonder if Tampa signs Pavelski and Point wants too much money, maybe they explore trading him and Dumba could be a piece that could get a deal done. He'd certainly fill a major need for us...

Not to hi-jack this ACGM but that's brutal.
They didn't pay their former captain, now not paying current captain....but they will pay through the nose for guys not in the organization.

Minny should get Mr. Lee!

I was just about to say, it's kind of sad how their captain and the freaking Mastertron winner Robin Lehner who revived not only his career, but his whole life are both going to walk in free agency. Kind of a gutless move by the Islanders organization...

@MNBassman I understand wanting to embrace the rebuild, but I believe that you still need experience to balance out the youth... Or you end up with the Oilers... All the young talent, most of whom are pushed up the lineup too quickly can hurt their development...
