Then they will walk away. There is not a chance stats nerd Kyle Dubas will devote his precious cap space to Cody Ceci.

Sens are about to get taken advantage of AGAIN to create cap space. Except instead of two years of Boedker it's five years of a MUCH worse player.

Ceci got a qualifying offer, he can tak that (4.3 mil) even with Toronto. Dubas may not get a choice. He may have to waste his cap space on Cody Ceci, because of Ottawa

Yes, but because Ceci got a qualifying offer, it may not go that far, Ceci can still accept it. That, again, would f*ck toronto over

if that happened toronto would package him with a pick and trade him, he is more tradable than zaitsev so leafs could find a team to take him, but its fine even at 4.3 leafs could sign marner to 11

He's less tradable, that's why Ottawa want to move him. I don't think you understand how bad Ceci is. The only saving grace is a qualifying offer is a 1 year thing. What I'm saying is, if/when this happens, the real winner is Cody Ceci.

i dont think hes that bad, he had a bad year, but last season he went to arbitration and the arbitrator decided 4.3 not him or the team so hes not as bad as people think, just on a crap team, give him 20 mins a night with rielly or muzzin and he will be fine, not all star level but your average right shot d

More likely Ceci will take it to Arbitration, because he genuinely believes he's worth 5+ million because Ottawa has been tugging him off for the last five years.

If he goes to Arbitration, Dubas will walk away. Even if he does take the QO, that's still only one season of Cody Ceci compared to five of Zaitsev.

Either way this is a slam dunk for Dubas, and Dorion the Morion can't see it coming as usual.

He's not had a bad year, he's had a bad career. He's just not a good player. He's got a better contract situation than Zaitsev (none) so I guess he's better in that sense, but he is not even an AHL caliber D man

even if we have ceci at 4.3 that would leave the leafs with about 12.5ish million left for marner so we will still be able to sign him to a 6yr 10.5-11 million aav, IMO he is worth 10 million aav for 6 years for one reason kane is at 10.5, MacKinnon 6.5 etc marner hasnt touched 100 points yet and those guys have

To clarify:
So he has to either accept the QO or initiate arbitration? (I don't see the Leafs initiating it) Are those his only options. Also does anyone know what the QO is? If it's low enough and he accepts maybe we just waive him.

if he accepts qualifying its 4.3 million for 1 yr, also arbitration will happen at end of august if a deal isnt in place by then neither side really initiates it, it just happens

Ok I thought it was a deal where if he asks for arb, we can walk, but if we ask for arb then we can't walk.
