Really have to applaud Dubas

Created by: noobmaster69
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 30, 2019
Published: Jun. 30, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- Every other fan on here thought Marleau and Zaitzev are immovable. Now both gone. And is getting an asset back in Ceci.

- He took a lot a flack for the Nylander contract, but with Hayes new contract it really looks okay. Not his fault Nylander had a terrible year. His contract will be looked on as a steal soon, if he keeps the recent form at world tornamemt.

- Next is obviously Marner, let's hope he does good in that one.

- Not to mention, signing JT which was huge.

- After Marner gets signed, I expect Dubas to be very active fixing the D issues.

Marleau was never immovable. He was quite easily movable. A 1 year buyout cap hit isn't hard to move. I'm surprised it took as long as it did. With Ceci, he's turned Zaitsev INTO SOMEONE WORSE. Yes he's freed up money, but at significant detriment to the on-ice product

Looks great but the team is lacking a true 4th liner. Having three rookies together in a more defensive role is not a good idea. They should try signing Bellemare, Fehr or someone like that

Ceci will never play a game for the leafs. His contract is 100 times easier to rid than Zaitsev. No NTC, under 26 so the buyout is only 1/3, and if he goes to arbitration Leafs can just walk away.

Moore is a good 4th line player on any team and by all assesments Mikheyev should be a good bottom 6 forward.

This is good, I agree with most if it.

Are you gonna sign ceci tho?

Stralman good tho someone else will probably offer him more, mcquaid bad id rather better 4c or a different veteran on D who is not slow and bad, maybe even timmy if he's ready

He gave up a first to move him
He was held hostage by nylander
The ripple effect with MM has him talking to other teams
You got Ceci for NZ, a lateral move, some Tor fans like NZ more
You got thumped in the first round (albeit by a good team)
Your D was avg and now losing 3
All homemade problems
Sure when Willy wakes up and no OS to MM maybe its a better outlook.
Right now this team is worse than that of the one who was surprised in Rd 1

No didn't sign him because I think they won't make an offer, which I think he just becomes a UFA?

Fans of other teams didn’t say they weren’t movable at all. What was said is a sweetener will need to be added to which the response from most lLeafs fans was....no it won’t.

Marleau cost a first

Zatisevs sweetener is still unknown but rumor is they added one.

He's got a 4.3 mil qualifying offer. He may play a season with the leafs. And he's worse than Zaitsev

Not sure I understand your logic. In your comments section you were crowing about how Toronto managed to move Zaitsev and actually get back an asset for him. Instead, if Ceci becomes a UFA, this means you moved Zaitsev and had to give up additional compensation to move him and get nothing back in return. Which is what most non leaf fans were saying all along, that Zaitsev has negative value and it would cost you to move him. Regarding Marleau, most people did feel his contract would be hard to move, and it likely would have been if his wife didn't decide she wanted to get back to the west coast so bad. Once that news came out, most posters said it would cost Toronto to move him, and I would say a first round pick was quite a cost.

So to summarize, if this plays out the way it is suggested here, Toronto gives up a first round pick, Marleau, Zaitsev, and Brown, and has no tangible assets to show for it. Yes, they do have cap space, so certainly something is gained. However, as someone said above, team is not as strong as last year, and they only made play offs by 4 points then. This upcoming year will be key for growth with some of the young players, but it should pay off for them down the road. Making the play offs next year should be a realistic goal.

I think Stralman is gonna be more expensive than that even though he had a down year and he’s old he’s weirdly ranked highly
