Why are people not talking about how in a cap crunch the Rangers are

Created by: F50marco
Team: 2019-20 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 10, 2019
Published: Jul. 10, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not saying they can't get out of it but if they just sign Trouba and Buchnevich to very normal contracts, they're over the cap. They have to trade some players away for no cap coming back for it to work.

Being good is irrelevant. They're building a powerhouse. I just didn't realise they were that close to the cap without even signing a couple important players still.

It’s really not that bad. They have Strome and Namestnikov who really aren’t needed but have value in a trade. And they can always buyout 1 of Staal/Shatty/Smith...

Hahaha....no but in all seriousness, they may make the playoffs, but those buyouts and buried contracts kill them

Isn't the buyout period over? Also I'm not sure Strome and Nameestnikov have value enough to be traded without any cap coming back. Other teams have cap limits right now also.

Right now they have to stop building because of the cap.....your post just proved it.

Yes and no. It’s tight for this year and next. But nearly all their bad/expensive contracts come off the books when there key young players come over there ELCs (nearly 25 mil just between Hank/Shatty/Smith/Staal). If they can pinch pennies the next two seasons they’ll be fine. Might not be able to keep Kreider though which sucks...

Trouba and Buch filed for arb. So once they sign they have a second buyout window.

True, but there are a couple of teams who have cap and could use another forward, namely MTL, COL, CBJ etc...

The only 3 that give them enough relief are Namestakov, Kreider, or Shattenkirk (unless they dump Henry)
Obtaining Panarin and Trouba makes any of the 3 above top trade bait, but like you said would have to be for picks/prospects rather than salary coming back.

Its not as bad as u think. Put Smith and Belesky in the minors and that offsets most of it. Then they need to trade out maybe one more guy

Trading Namestnikov + Strome for picks nets 7.1 mil. That's roughly Trouba. You Deal Kreider for an ELC and picks and that nets you another 3 mil. You send Smith to AHL and that nets you another mil. I'm not sure what the issue is. All of those things are very easy to do.
