100 bucks says Seabrook won't be on the roster in 2022. Also, your lines aren't close.

Honestly, from the things I heard, isn’t Seabrook no longer an NHL caliber defenseman? Why not just send him to the AHL. At least he’s better than Jack Johnson.

this is not true. he's a good 2nd paring guy still and probably will be for another few years. it wasn't smart to give him a massive contract.

In his prime do you think he was an elite defenseman or close to elite?

Fair enough. I still think Seabrook with his large contract is a better option than Johnson of PIT. What’d you think?

At his absolute prime he was a top 20 dman in the league. Now hes a serviceable 4-6 guy who can play some special teams and great locker room presence who just happens to be overpaid by about 4m/year

Who would y’all say was better in their prime, Letang or Seabrook?

the benefit of jj's contract is the cap hit isn't too overwhelming, no extra clauses and doesn't have signing bonuses. it can be moved/bought out easily.

seabrooks contract has extremely limiting clauses (10 trade list in the final year), has signing bonuses throughout. a buyout would handicap the team and a trade would require assets.

Defensively seabs, offensively letang. Would rather have seabs clearing my net but letang running my pp.

That’s true but Seabrook at least he can still play respectable minutes. Johnson is a total liability every time he’s out on the ice.

Seabrooks more valuable on the ice and in the locker room. Johnsons more value on the GMs balance sheet.

First off, he’s got a full NMC, but I’m sure you’ve been told that lol

Secondly yes, he’s still a really solid 5-6 guy; physical, good defensively and isn’t terrible on the PP. That said, he’s really slow and only going to get slower. Plus, he’s taking up a really valuable roster spot that may force out one of our better defensemen (Murphy or Gustafsson) or hold down our prospects (Boqvist and Mitchell).

He was on the Canadian Olympic team in 2010. Sounds elite to me
