Don't mind the idea of trading the D Men to upgrade a bit...LA needs to picks and is a long stretch from doing anything....but losing the Blais is costly...maybe increase the pick quality somewhere else or add a different depth player? Bozak or Steen (waive the NTC) and then resign Maroon for a year or two again.

Also- likely to lose Jake at the expansion draft as he will likely be the best unprotected player. See who Ronnie wants in net I guess smile

Isn't the expansion draft in 3 years, not 2?

That's your opinion. Sure he's older, but he defines a top four defenseman.

I wouldn't trade for a D-Man Upgrade. Expansions coming up. I would get a Forward Upgrade for the Top 6, and that would probably do, I'm not to worried about our Defense we protect Pietrangelo Dunn and Parayko. Forwards Tarasenko, Schwartz, Schenn, O'Reilly, Sundqvist, Thomas, and whoever you get that's new, and Binnington. Probably be able to do something where they take on Alexander Steen's contract.

Not for the Blues. Alex Martinez is offensive based. Blues like defensive based when Bouwmeester Dunn Pietrangelo Gunnarsson are all offensive, Bortuzzo and Parayko are the only 2 Defensive, and Edmundson was more offensive. Mitch Reinke who is coming up is offensive. We need a more defensive based Defenseman.

I agree with @Wqrrior that moving Edmundson is something to explore, but I see Eddy and Martinez as a push or a slight edge going to Martinez. Martinez certainly isn't so much better than Eddy that he requires Blais and a 2nd. That is way too heavy a price for a guy who plays third pair minutes for the Note. Eddy and a 4th for Martinez is about all I'd do. Sure, Eddy had a down year last year, but he's big, nasty, young and affordable. There is a price to be attached to those qualities. Martinez is just anther Gunnarsson to me but one that has a better health track record.

With that 2020 2nd, it's way too much to give for Martinez. Frankly, I'd just keep Eddy, he's the one with upside potential. Martinez will only go downhill.

Martinez will run out of contract before the expansion draft.
