<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>They have some pieces, but they need way more depth. Horvat should be a 3rd line centre. And all the other guys you mentioned, the bottom 6 players that aren't showing as anything other than bubble players is the problem in vancouvers. You just don't have the depth and you haven't developed well and moves like every FA move Benning has made, is keep the team just good enough to not be bad enough to get the ride base for the team. They just don't have enough elite players.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>t4tree</b></div><div>I don't think they are jumping the gun. I do not think we need to just make the playoffs to win the cup. We were affected with injuries all season and were only 10 points out of the playoffs. If Markstrom can keep playing like he did last year we have a great goalie who can steal games for us. We have a top six that maybe isn't as good as Vegas or Tampa but it can put up points and be viable in the league. In professional sports, you don't just draft and develop for 10 years doing nothing. While the Canucks won't win the cup this year, showing that they can contend and make the playoffs is good for the organization. No one wants to watch a team suck for 10 years in a row. For the next 3-4 youth will keep being injected in this lineup to beef up depth scoring. Players like Virtanen, Gaudette, Madden, Hoglander and Lind can all potentially add scoring in the coming years.

You talk about how you need a great team to win the cup. Canucks have the foundational pieces in Pettersson, Horvat, Boeser, Hughes and Demko to build around. If you truly want better players to make them a "top team" you need to be able to attract top free agents aswell. If we added say Panarin, Pavelski or Lee would we be a "top team". The point is you can't just rebuild for 10 years and expect your team to instantly become amazing after that. Slowly a team will improve by building around it's core players and that's what this team is doing.</div></div>

So here's a question: Canucks let "stars" play a few games in there first season after college and end up paying them 6 or 7 million a year earlier. Someone tell me how that makes any business sense?

Now- IF the 'Nucks had spent the last 4/5 years developing all the kids that needed it then we wouldn't have the plethora of third/fourth liners. Same this year with Benn and Edler. Really...we are going to stick with those two instead of giving Hughes, Juolevi, Woo and others a chance...or giving more opportunities to Mr. Fix-It Biega- who is a perfect 4th line winger with his energy. Or sign Schenn who is Myers without steroids.

The future looks good though....2021= Pettersson's big deal (oh and Hughes due to him playing a few games last spring???) and the End of Baertschi, Sutter, Pearson, Edler and Benn. And improvements the next year (2022) with Eriksson, Roussel and Beagle expiring.

So in 3 years- things look good....no worries though Still time to muss that up by signing some old guys for too long. Maybe 4 year deals for Jumbo Joe and Kronwall this summer?

And we should be looking at getting the big man back from Russia too. Adding Tryamkin would improve this team way more than Benn or Edler. Imagine he, Myers and Schenn as three parts to the D. Tough to play against I would think.
