My thinking on this trade is that Yes, Kase is a more valuable player than Mayfield and this looks suspiciously like Hall for Larsson 2.0, but the Ducks are in danger of missing the playoffs again with the right-side-defense they have now. You have to send quality to get quality. Now if you all want to say the Isles should send along a second with Mayfield, I accept that; I should have done better. But I do not want to accept going into the season with Guhle and Larsson or Mahura on the left and Fowler on the right. If anyone has any better suggestions, please feel free to make them. Criticism is easy; improvement is hard.

NOT making any effort to improve this defense would be awful for the Ducks. If these two deals made the Ducks a playoff team despite the price, would that be so awful?

Now if you want to tell me that I'm not getting enough from Lamoriello, fine. Tell me what you think would succeed in getting Mayfield from him. Don't just **** and whine; I'm willing to listen. I've been wrong before; most recently, in November. Of 2016.

Sherwood seems like a nice idea. I would go for a centerman actually.

Boy, the Ducks have enough of those, from last year's first-round pick Isac Lundestrom all the way to Antoine Morand. But I think that the Islanders want a RW right now.

I think very highly of him, too. The comments so far have not altered my opinion that getting Mayfield would be a good idea, but I'm convinced I'm wrong -- maybe cuckoo wrong -- about the price. My basic theory is that you have to send quality to get quality, but that doesn't mean I have to sell a thoroughbred to buy a nag. Maybe I should just chalk this one up to my weekly lunacy.

It just feels like we got enough in the forward department. Aside from the 10 remaining wingers shown here, we also have Lundestrom and Groulx in the system and Zegras and Tracey drafted this year. And that's not including some distant prospects like Carrick and Morand.

Then I'd trade one of them for a project/prospect RHD. Even just playing a LHD on the right side is a smaller loss in value than trading your best RW for an okay-to-decent RHD
