Description
I thought this might be fun, kinda makes some sense. You save around 3 mil by not signing marner, get around the same talent back. Chicago gets younger while still improving in the long term. Thoughts?

Kane's talent is far superior to Marner. Not a knock on Marner at all. Kane is one of the best and rarely gets recognized.

Please tell me which player you think is better at their best, Malkin or Kane?

Thats a tough one but I take Kane. If I'm factoring in that Malkin is a center, then I take Malkin.

Short term is better skill but I personally don’t think marner is getting more than 10 and it’ll make you worse in the future

Marner may catch Kane too later in his career, but right now Kaner is the guy.

toronto does. having kane at 8.5 would be incredible but it narrows their cup window.

Even if these players were exactly equal, which they are not (and which I will touch on in a second), chemistry needs to count for something. The dynamic Tavares and Marner established last season far outweighs any possible benefit of getting an equal player in return for Mitch Marner, unless it significantly helped the team in another area, which is does not. Now, Marner and Kane may have similar styles, but I would first argue age is a huge concern, and with that comes control. 4 more years of a 30 year old Patrick Kane at $10.5 million AAV minus the $2.5 million retained still does not equal a 22-year old Mitch Marner. Even if, as a worst case scenario, Marner didn't sign this season, this deal would still not be worth it for Toronto.

Marner will be better longer. Remember Marner is not yet in his prime meaning he could get even better. Kane is a little bit past his prime meaning that he will very slowly get worse. Leafs are not giving up the bright future for the bright present.

Well the way I see it, in terms of individual skill level, Malkin and Kane are pretty much the same. Even their trophy case is identical. However, Malkin has greater physical presence and explosiveness. Plus his career points per game is 1.18 whereas Kane is 1.05.

See I disagree. Physical presence yes, explosiveness though, Kane is the most explosive player in the league imo save for maybe mcdavid. When he couples that quick burst of speed with his shot its unreal. He's incredible to watch. But the two players are very much equal that's just why I lean towards Kane.

Yes Kane has quicker footspeed but Malkin has a combination of acceleration and power, which made him unplayable for opponents. I believe Ovechkin in his prime was more explosive than both Kane and Malkin. Kane is the better stick handler but Malkin has the dekes and dangles which allow him to undress players with ease. Many times in his career he went through the entire team (4-5 players). I see Kane going past 2-3 players in a sequence only.
