There's no salary cap for the playoffs because the season is technically over (the players don't get paid) players get their money during the calendar season.

players do get paid, this is from the late 90s. But players got paid i think 20K per game, and bonus for things. It has likely gone up a lot, but the salary cap does play into it, otherwise teams would be loading up at trade deadline to stuff their lines full in the playoffs.

yea but my point was, they still get paid by the nhl .... I mean otherwise what motivation do they really have ? I mean I am not going to destroy my body just for a cup if there is no real financial compensation attached to it. There are lots of players like that out there. Rewards are the best payment.

Yeah they get paid by the NHL not their team. The whole point of playing in the NHL is to win the Stanley Cup yes players want to be paid but people don't become professional hockey players or athletes for that matter for the money there is far more money in other professions.

prior to the cba , it was each teams that paid out the bonus per game, per round in the playoffs..... but at the end of the day... who is the nhl made of ? Each teams .... essentially each time is still paying off the playoff booty, instead of just the team that made the playoffs or the teams remaining in the playoffs.
