It's that three year term difference between Gaudreau and Marner that makes the Leafs say no . And the assumption that Kapanen is better than Bennett and has growth to his game.
Just don't think the 4 million in cap saving (it shouldn't be that high) and the pick sways the Leafs.
Marner for Gaudreau and Andersson.....I like that better as a Leaf.

Hammer likely but prob not Brodie. Either way the risk vs reward is too high. Obvi this is for fun and wont happen but Andersson will not be included in the trade. Also were talking about the same GM who just willingly traded for Lucic

That trade isn't as bad as it looks on the surface, but any trade between Toronto and CGY would really need to include Andersson. He is the piece that we want. If we are moving Kappy or Marner he is going back or there wont be a deal.

The Leafs don't move Kapanen without Andersson coming back. Plain and simple.

Kapanen is a middle 6 winger, his ceiling is 2nd line. Andersson's ceiling is a top 4 guy (top 4 guys can and often play on the 1st pair, doesn't mean they are a 1st pair Dman).

You really just don't get it do you? Flames NEED Andersson. They have 3 total RD now that Stone was bought out 2 of which are UFA's next year and could very well walk. 1 of which is an RFA. the only 1 that the Flames can guarantee protecting next year. On the other side the Leafs RW depth is as followed: Marner > Nylander > Kapanen > Bracco > Spezza > Aberg > Korshkov. Kapanen is expendable so his value to the Leafs isnt even near Andersson's value to the Flames

THE ONLY AND I MEAN ONLY circumstance where Andersson is available is if a top 20 player in the league is coming back. We wouldn't even consider involving him in a Mark Stone trade. An 80 point Selke level forward. Kapanen is nowhere near the value of Andersson. He is going to be playing top pairing on one of the best d-cores in the league next year. Kapanen is a middle-six forward. Think about it this way. We had Andersson ahead of Adam Fox on our depth chart. Fox was ranked 12th best NHL affiliated prospect by Button ahead of this season. Shows you how much we like Andersson. Fox was only one rank behind Brannstrom who paired with only a 2nd got Mark Stone. Andersson may not have as high a ceiling as Brannstrom but he still has just as high a ceiling as Fox and has already played an entire NHL season. It is like this from the Leafs perspective. I have decided to propose trading Sam Bennett for Rasmus Sandin (or Liljgren whoever's better). Sandin isn't as good as Andersson and Bennett had 17 points less than Kapanen. Bennett also plays tougher and has a cheaper contract. Think of it as a toned-down version of the Andersson for Kapanen trade. Obviously you decline and laugh because that is not in any way a fair trade

I have no idea how the idea that someone is a top pairing dman just because of who their partner is became a thing. Gunnarsson isn't a top pairing dman, neither was Hainsey and they all played next to the best dman on their respective teams. Andersson is not a top pairing dman.
