Room for Barbie 15M and Maroon 19M

Created by: tjhacala
Team: 2019-20 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 7, 2019
Published: Aug. 7, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Cap space for Barbie and Maroon, but nothing left over for hedge. This works because they would need to send down Pouliot (700) and MacEachern (750) which provides more cap space. However, I hope that they pass on Maroon, and use MacEachern as the 23rd roster player, providing cap space of just under $1.2M.

I know everyone wants to hang on to the entire Stanley Cup-winning team but it's time to move on from Maroon.

Agreed, Maroon wasn’t that effective and roster turnover is important in general.

I agree completely on Maroon. I hope they don't sign him, and keep the $1.92M in reserve (which I fully expect Army to do)...or keep MacEachern on the active roster of 23, with a cap reserve of just under $1.2M.

I was merely trying to show that it could work financially to sign both Barbashev and Maroon. I hope that Maroon signs elsewhere...I think his legacy could be tarnished here if he were to sign, and then he has another rough regular season.

Not time yet to move on from Fabbri...at $900k he's still a value to the Blues relative to his talent and potential. The Blues can definitely afford to be patient with him...he'll still be a Restricted Free Agent (RFA) after this next season, and he will not be arbitration eligible, so the Blues can resign him for less than $1M if he is not back to form. Regardless, the Blues will expect him to show significant progress this year. But as a cost controlled asset, they won't likely cut him loose unless they can get value back in a trade.

All the Blues fans saying to move on from Fabbri should go watch baseball. He consistently improved as a rookie and showed legitimate top 6 potential. He shared in leading the Blues in points his rookie year in the playoffs.. He almost had 2 years off from NHL hockey. He’s very young, looks to have made a full recovery from the surgeries, and is incredibly cheap. He just needs to get consistent playing time to round back into form.

Maroon isn’t going to be a Blue. There’s not really a roster spot not to mention cap. Kyrou should make this roster. He’s not going to grow his game any further in the AHL.

Berube did some good work switching lineups in the season and playoffs. It’s impossible to guess opening night lines but this is what I’d like to see.

Schenn ROR Tarasenko
Schwartz Thomas Perron
Fabbri Bozak Kyrou
Barbashev Sundqvist Blais

Bouwmeester Parayko
Dunn Pietrangelo
Edmundson Bortuzzo

agreed but he's so cheap and plays the Blues weakest position so who cares

As a fanbase people REALLY need to move on from Fabbri. He was never that great at playmaking or defense & while seeing his success at a young age was exciting it also meant when his knee went belly up he lost valuable development time. Now 4 years removed from that success and with the fact that people with his history rarely make it back to their old form (I think it's like 40 something percent make it back to their old form after multiple injuries on the same knee and it's even lower if they have a down year when they come back) people still blindly expect him to be a top 6 player and it makes no sense whatsoever.

But as a team, he costs roster filler money, is being managed like roster filler, is likely roster filler (which is fine), and, assuming Kyrou makes the jump too, if he does regain his old form (or if Sanford makes an unexpected but possible jump or if someone like Hoffman or Zucker or whomever is picked up at the deadline) the fact that Fabbri is a LW and that's the Blues only hole in an otherwise especially good top 9 means that they'll have an entire top 9 of top 6 level/type lines and we know how good the 4th line is.

It's nothing to get your hopes up about (well, maybe the deadline pickup, but I wouldn't rest a lot of hope on Fabbri, or Sanford for that matter) but it's the best move for a team that should be absolutely be a cup contender again
