Chasing Puljujarvi

Created by: nic34
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 8, 2019
Published: Aug. 8, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I really do think Poehling (and maybe Suzuki) is NHL ready and could play top 9 but, as Seattle draft is coming next year, I would highly suggest that they both play at least 1st half of the year with Laval. Get Chemistry together and then maybe get the call up after 41 NHL games to be exempt of the draft.

Same with Juulsen. Make him play less than 41 games so he won't be elligible.

If you are chasing Pool Party you better look at the Nylander for Joki trade as that’s what set the market for disgruntled albeit talented forwards.

I really do think that Joki was +++ overpay for nylander... Not completely sure that this is really the price for that type of player.

Altough, even if the price is hyped, I really would like to see MB give a real push for a big offensive finnish RW. Could really be a big asset in MTL with KK over the years

I see what you mean but its not 100% true. Edmonton has been given an ultimatum with Puljujarvi. Trade or he doesn't play with you. Joki and Nylander were normal trade chips. Poolparty has twisted Edm's hands a little to the point of getting max value for him will be tough. EDM doesn't have to trade him but what does playing hard ball with him gonna help? Its not like they can come to terms after all this now. Each year EDM holds out JP, the less his value will be in trade. They should want to make sure they don't get fleeced but they shouldn't rest on their laurels too much either.

Fleury = right D
Olofsson =Center

We got a bunch of thoses.
Aint got no Top 6 potential big RW (Suzuki if he goes on the wing...)

Not a big loss if Pulju doesn't get to his potential...

Agree.

What about the explanation on Poehling / Suzuki on top ? what's your opinion on that ?

Any forward that can score 20 points next season should be considered a win for EDM.

No thanks from Edmonton. Fleury would be lost on the depth chart and Olofsson isn't going to help the team for a couple of years - not what Holland is looking for in return.

AA gave Holland an ultimatum too, yet he's still there. It's a staring contest that Holland has played many times before - he isn't going to trade JP for a bag of pucks. If he doesn't get what he considers a proper return he'll let JP go to Europe for the year.

If EDM wants to I would do it all the way (Habs Fan here) Left wing is stacked.
I really don't think EDM would agree 1v1 JP Lehko

What about them? Its their spots to lose. All depends on their play in training camp.

Because getting a solid 3rd liner very good defensively with the potential to be a 20 goals scorers isn’t good enough for a bust ? Armia vs JP & Mtl might accept

This has less to do with points IMO than it is finding another team willing to trade a higher profile drafted prospect that can provide a better return. They want to salvage the situation more than get instant returns on their 4th overall pick.

True forgot Caufield hahah (Big mistake)
But altough, I really would push for that big size finnish RW. We have plenty of interesting players in our prospect pool and even if ALL of them gets to develop at their best, MTL won't have enough space on the lineup.
I think right now is the good timing for MB to sacrifice some of his prospects for some bigger potentials.

This isn't true. Part of the reason his trade value is low right now is because he's just had hip surgery and even though he's back to training full time nobody knows for sure what player they'll get going forward. A strong season in (say) Liiga would go a long way towards alleviating those fears.

Resting on laurels? Huh? I'm guessing you don't know what that means.

Yep that's JP option. Between LP and AA, whose more at home playing in Finland for a year while they wait?

I get your point but if JP really doesn't like the situation he can out wait Holland and play in Finland and still make decent money. If he plays well over there, it'll give other teams something more to trade for.

Sitting out could be a solution for both teams that actually ends well.

Either you don't understand the mechanics of negotiating or your pulling my leg.....

If i tell you I HAVE to sell my car or else I get it totaled for nothing, do you come in with your highest offer? Come on man, Im actually not trying to put down JP's value as a player but saying his situation doesn't effect his trade value right now is asinine.

Maybe the context doesn't quite work? Resting on their laurels in the sense that they'll let him sit out and just go into the season without him because they feel they've done enough with the team to be better already?

I didn't say his situation doesn't affect his trade value. Please re-read the posts above. You claimed that if he plays in Europe for a year his value will go down and I disagreed and stated my reasons.

Well that comment is misleading, your assuming he does play better. He could potentially play worse and that's what I meant. Don't wait too long as he could potentially get worse and now trading him is near impossible or at the very least the value that EDM can realistically expect is less than it could have been had they did trade him earlier. I did mention in another comment that if he does play well, and this is best case scenario, it would actually help EDM as more teams would be willing to pay the cost to get him.

He played with pain and hip impingement last year, I don't think it's possible for him to play worse. Especially if he's in a familiar league like Liiga... I'm not worried about him playing worse. I just think NHL GM's would be more comfortable with Holland's asking price if they could see that he's fully healed and skating well again.

Once again, if he plays great, perfect! More teams will be interested. If he doesn't though, you can't argue his value won't go down as a result.
