Approaching mid august, Gardiner still without a contract. Pay the man for 1 year and see how things evolve on a potential contract extension mid season.

He's 29 and probably looking for term. If he takes a 1 year deal...he'll be 30 looking for term.

I agree with you. But if no team is offering term, the proposal made might be his best offer. Been a crazy offseason wih the signings....or the lack of them.

I'm sure he has contracts lined up and he is waiting for the Leafs to sign Mariner to see what they offer him.

I agree. He's the top-4 puck mover you guys need. Idk if he takes a one year deal, but if he does, I'd pounce on it

like Wayne Simmonds i think he's looking to grab a 1 year deal to bring up his value for negotiations at this point.
he's coming off a down year after turning 29 and suffering back issues to end his year if he wants 5m + from a playoff team
he will need to do a 1 year deal like Perry , Simmonds , Shattenkirk , ext
