Nylander wanted 8.5 million and settled 6.9 million. What's your point ?

Nylander sat first couple of months of the first year. With Marner you don't really have that option.

Which puts MORE pressure on the Marner camp, not the Leafs, the Leafs don't have the cap space for a pro-rated salary like they did with Nylander getting a 10+ million cap hit. so if Marner missing even a couple of weeks, it's more likely the Leafs would sit him for the year. No other team has an offer sheet for him and only a couple of teams have the cap space to accept a trade to sign him at his price. Dubas is actually winning this battle, not Ferris.

If Marner ends up sitting the next year, I think there's only a bunch of losers sitting in the negotiating table.

I know if Marner must sit the season out than the Leafs might as well cancel their pre-destine Stanley Cup parade. ha!

Think if Marner's first year cap hit gets elevated like with Nylander TOR can't afford to sign it.

Nylanders cap hit was pro rated for time missed his actual cap hit was only 7m ish last season. That is why the so called “loophole” is there. To stop teams from signing a player later in the season to save on their cap hit.

If Mitch signs a 10m contract and muses 20% of the season he will have a 12.5m cap hit prorated for 80% of the season.... 10m.

Marner take over your negotiations, get your 80 million guaranteed now, 8x10, there’s a ton of things that could happen, between now and 2 years, 3 years, or 5 years, sell yourself now as if your taking a discount, and concentrate on playing your best hockey. And turn it into a mistake, or a bad break and the best decision you ever made.

I don't believe this is correct. Nylanders CAP hit last year was 10m and then dropped to 6.95m going forward starting this year. TOR was able to sign him on DEC 1st last year because they had the CAP space to absorb the 1 year 10m hit and the 7m hit going forward. They don't have that luxury with Marner this year, because they only have 10.5m available once Horton and Clarkson go on LTIR. If Marner isn't signed by the start of the season, it only gets harder for TOR to sign him... not Marner.
