I think the team would be way more competitive if you did three duos up front and throw your current third liners on their wings;
Panarin-McDavid-Lebanc
Matthews-Tavares-Spezza
Pirri-Toews-Kane
If you played the 4th line limited minutes you'd basically still have a 1st line on the ice the rest of the game. The D and goalies would just need to stay awake to be competitve.
Yep. I think that fourth line mostly just kills penalties, or plays bigger minutes in the third period, to rest the big guys once they have six or ten goals on the board. You've made the team twice as effective. You could also take it a little farther, by breaking up Kane and Toews, and playing them each with a couple of decent but not great guys to make two second lines, like they do in Chicago:
Matthews McDavid Conacher
Panarin Tavares Kempe
Pirri Toews Labanc
Spezza Dowd Kane.
That way you always have a couple of good playmakers on the ice, and someone who can usually score a goal, so you can roll four lines and never let defenses rest. Or you can swap Kane onto either of the top lines and bench the fourth line if you're behind in the third. They won't win as many games 12-5 this way, but I think they might win more games, overall. That's important when your most experienced right defenseman is Madison Bowey, and your starting goaltender is Scott Wedgewood.
