send another OS to Point

Created by: BrandonMcD11
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 20, 2019
Published: Sep. 20, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Send an offer to Point with Marner money.
Make it hard for him to say no.

If MB wants a 1st rounder he can move Petry or Tatar or Danault. Move Danault to make room for Poehling next year.

You gotta really go for it at some point, right?

I think he could have accepted something like this a long time ago. He just wants to stay in Tampa and why wouldn't he. He's probably just playing hard ball as long as possible until eventually gets what he knows is probably the most Tampa can possibly offer to him and then accept. No RFA has missed an games yet.....

I would just send him another one as a "are you sure?". Last I read both sides are far apart so maybe coming at Point with a very high number, he might have a hard time saying no to that. Just a thought anyways.

I think he could pull an Aho and sign it to force TB to match it

We're all in understanding that TB cannot sign point to 9M right? They'd have to trade a major piece in order to make room and the season is starting in two weeks. He's being offered in the range of 6-7M at 3 years.

Not sure why you're all saying he'd decline this for sure..... he's either accepting this offer sheet because its more than he'll make in Tampa the next 3 years at least or taking the discount in Tampa because he wants to stay there. I simply believe he wants to stay with Tampa but there's no rush to accept an offer he probably feels is low but he will most likely sign it eventually. Tampa cannot give point what he wants without trading a 3-4M player... so its one or the other.

Sure...even at 8M, he is now making 150K less than 10.5 in MTL...My point is still that MTL will have to give him a whole lot of money

He isn't even being offered 8M at the moment from the reports we've been hearing...... That's the thing. Tampa is offering between 6-7M on a 3 year deal. Probably not front loaded like a MTL OS would be either.

Plus we'd have to not discount the fact that Montreal, like Toronto would an easy place to market yourself to make plenty of extra cash if he wanted to offset the tax difference. The one thing MTL can't offset is the weather.... There's no beating around the bush, winter's here ******* suck.

They're forced to move one asset almost certainly since they have to re-sign some assets for the next year such as Cirelli and Sergachev. By moving Killorn and one of Palat/Johnson/Gourde (assuming they're willing to waive NTC) they can manage. Of that I'm almost 100% certain.

    Point isn't going anywhere.

They're not forced to do anything right now. I agree they should move out an asset but Tampa is playing hard ball with Point and hoping he takes the bridge deal they can afford this year. Then use this year and next offseason to open up cap space for the other guys.

If they wanted to move Killorn/etc, they would have done it earlier this off season while the demand was high for a quality wingers. Right now teams are stocked and ready for the season. The market is way low on 4-6M guys right now. Only a few teams can actually take on that kind of cap if they really wanted too.
