The trade value NJ paid for Subban wasn't a lot more than what Philly paid for Braun. Replace the 2020 3rd they gave up with a 2nd and remove a couple prospects and you're there.

2nd 2019 was super early, almost a late 1st, Davies is an ok prospect, Santini worth almost nothing and a 2020 2nd in a good draft

Philly has tons of prospects, some might be worth more than what NJ offered to make up the value of the later 2nd. The $2.3m in cap they'd need to shed is more problematic than the hypothetical trade value gap.

I don't think he's saying they're the same. He's saying if they traded for Subban instead of Braun.
