TBH, I wasn't aware Kane Kane was getting $7 AAV. I think he's the better player, but that deal is enormous. It's probably a more even deal than I originally thought.

Problem with Drouin isn't the talent or contract.. His hockey IQ is awful. When you watch him play, it's so obvious that his brain can't keep up with his feet and hands.

drouin in an offense only system would produce massively. kane is not worth his current deal and thats part of the problem. Im honestly not sure as the maker of this post if you are a sj fan or a hab fan. because in my eyes, habs really lose this trade because of cap flexibility.

Yes. That’s why I want Drouin traded. And I think Kane would fit nicely here because of his size and play style that fits Domi. However, We take a dangerous contract . Drouin could also find his groove in SJ for cheap. Both wins I think

Must be a good trade if you don’t know my team ! But yes I understand the risk of taking on Kane contract. At the same time, Kane would bring toughness and size needed to play on Domi’s wing. Drouin could ? in SJ. I see a fit

Don't listen to this clown claiming for draft picks.

Problem for the Habs is they gain a bigger contract that could very likely hurt them in the future when it's the time to resign their current and upcoming core players.
For SJ, Kane seems to have found a niche there and it's working out great for them, while they'll be acquiring an uncertainty and parting w/ certainty, so they'll also decline

As a bruins fan, i think Kane fits what the habs playstyle is. but at 7m for that length. You are 100% losing this trade unless drouin wants 7m on his next deal as well.

I think SJ might have to throw in Chmelevski to make this tempting, because of age and cap space, but then MTL might get interested because Kane is tougher than Drouin, and he forechecks better.

I'm guessing Drouin gets a six year deal on his next contract. Over the last two years, these guys signed for 6+ years at 7M or less: https://www.capfriendly.com/signings/all/all/forwards/6-15/750000-7000000/09302017-09302019

These guys signed for 7M or more: https://www.capfriendly.com/signings/all/all/forwards/6-15/7000000-14500000/09302017-09302019

Drouin is better than all but four or five of the first group. All but four or five of the second group are better than him. He's on the line. Now. He's signed for four more years. The cap might go up 1M to 2M a year, and that tends to be distributed mostly to big UFAs, as teams with an extra 6M to throw around will want to add the best player possible and get something going. Today, Drouin could sign for 6M or 7M. In four years, if he has a big contract year and goes UFA, let alone if he improves defensively, Drouin could be looking at 8. Maybe even 9M per.

I don't think cap space really figures into this trade. They're each signed for long enough to evaluate in terms of what they bring to the team. Kane is the kind of player the Habs want, but he's 5 years older than Drouin, and they're mostly trying to stay young. Not sure if they do this one or not, but cap hit in five years could go either way.
