It all really depends on how he does with it whenever Dumo is out. But I’m thinking they’d just send him to WBS in this scenario just so he can keep getting consistent minutes and develop chemistry with PO Joseph since he’d most likely be his D partner next season on the third pair.

So u think riikola takes that spot or they use that cap space to get another LHD?

Either Riikola would take the spot or they make a trade similar to how they traded for Mark Streit in 2017. I’m thinking someone like Andrej Sekera would make sense.

What do you think the value should be...? Especially since Bob McKenzie said he think teams are gonna value him as a 3rd pairing player and not a top 4 D.

I would like to see Jamie Oleksiak come back or Ian Cole

Kahun alone equals Stecher in my mind.
Try to get a depth forward like Leivo

That makes a lot more sense...I thought you believed I was undervaluing stecher at first ?

I don’t think either of them would find their way back here due to their cap hit or the fact that they butted heads with the coach or had a bad ending to their tenures here.

Ottawa doesn't need more "proven" forwards. They need to trade the forwards they have to make room for guys like Logan Brown. They aren't taking JJ. they already have too many LD as is.

If the Pens are retaining on Johnson, then they are not also "paying" for someone to take him. One or the other.

yeah because he has no business there. Or on the 1st pairing like he was tonight. -3 on the night. All Sullivan's fault. What kind of moron puts a rookie defense man on his off side on the top pairing with like 6 NHL games experience. He's a jack arse.

His stupid decision making is unreal.

I don’t really think Sullivan is an issue yet...literally half of his top 9 is out with injuries and injuries on defense have forced him to play both JJ and Gudbranson which isn’t good for anyone involved. I’d wait until everyone gets healthy and plays a series of games together until we start pinning things on the coach.

are you kidding me. The whole rest of the defense last night looked to hold their own. Even with that bottom pairing. Hell he ZAR line with the JJ pairing behind it held a 68% corsi. Then there was that top pairing. Which finished a -2 for letang and a -3 for Marino.

Now, I'm not going to say the bottom 6 forwards aren't getting out played, they are. But they took the defense man who has the worst GF/GX ration of all the defense man by far. And you put him on the top pair????? Then you ignore the fact he finished a -3 and think it wasn't a bad decision?

He has no business on the top pairing. None at all. It's not even a conversation at this point.
His even strength is a -6 on the year now with a 46.6% corsi.
I get it, they didn't want to break up Pettersson and Schultz.
They didn't want to pair JJ on the top pairing because he has no business there either.
But FFS play Riikola there and at least have someone on their natural side there.
Not a guy playing his off side who has barely been keeping his head above water.
It's no surprise they lost that game with those pairings.

I agree riikola should have been playing but to say marino has been barley keeping his head water is a bit much. He has been playing with jj and gudbranson as his d partners. I would wait to judge till he plays someone decent and on his natural side.
