Agreed, it was a blatant cheap shot. The puck was nowhere near, plus you could see him raise his elbow and direct at Crosby's head. I can't believe there are people who believe it was a clean hit, like makes me think they never played competitively before. Crosby was on pace for 65 goals and 132 points that season. I remember feeling so sad seeing other players start to take over him in the scoring race game by game. Was a ugly hit bit was completely different situation. Crosby had made a move in front of holtby and lost the puck and lost edge too. Niskanen was trying to win positioning over crosby. The hand come up when crosby is goiing down so we can argue that niskanen wasn’t targeting the head it was more of a circumstance that niskanen stick hit crosby in the face. For me the slash by ovechkin was way more dangerous, he slashed Crosby really high in the back and it was a two hand slash. It was that slash that make him lost edge.

Yeah I agree. I didn't like the slash by Ovechkin. Sometimes it's a reactionary play but honestly, he had no reason to slash him so high because that means he wasn't going for the puck. It was tough for Niskanen to avoid the collision at full speed, but it looked like he raised his arms and directed at Crosby before hitting him on the head, so it was a penalty no doubt.
