Meier and Labanc were RFA. Karlsson took a discount only on AAV not term. Plus Vegas has no state income tax. Pacioretty took a discount on term, definitely not AAV. He had 17 goals the year prior. Fleury deal was not a discount, I’d say that’s market value , maybe even a slight overpay. 7 million for 3 years for a 35 year old goaltender. Ellis took a discount on AAV, not term.
I might have missed some of your previous comments, I was referring your statement that "there's no one recently who's given their team a huge discount and I doubt Gallagher will be the first". I believe that Karlsson at least can be considered to have given a rather large discount compared to market value.
I disagree about Pacioretty. He had one bad year when the whole team crashed but had scored at a 30+ goal pace for about 7 years before that. I'm not sure how that isn't worth more than $7 million on anything other than an 8 year deal (he wanted 8x8 to stay in MTL)
Fleury may be getting older but imo he's still worth at least $1million more than the likes of Holtby, Helebuyck and Jones over the term of his contract.

I think Gallagher would take an 8 year deal at 6.5 AAV. But he’s not doing that at 6 years. If Montreal wants the AAV lower, they will need to give him max term. If they want him at 5 years, they will need to give him around 8 mill.
I do believe we agree on this point. I was simply stating that imo he will take a discount on either term or AAV and go below market value.
My last point was that he is a player the team cannot afford to lose even if we need to give an 8 year deal to a 30 year old.
