The Habs would not trade Gally or Petry, especially not to the Leafs. You're not getting Gally.

No from MTL...
Jonhsson & a 1st should be the right cost for Petry... but the balance (QTY) won't get you Gally.
MTL are giving way too much quality player versus the return they are getting.
Mid-6 F, Another ProspectD (MTL as 6 for next year) and a 1st & 2nd... we have already 19 picks in the next 2 draft!.. how many more we need?

To help you with you Cap... we could take Nylander for Lehkonen & Juulsen & 3rd instead.
Mtl get the best player and Toronto gets depth and cap release.

I would say, based on Mayfield's play this year, he would not be worth Hyman - maybe Bracco and another mid-level prospect or mid-level draft pick. As far as your Habs deal is concerned, I can't see the Leafs and Habs lining up for a trade, ever, let alone mid-season. I also think, based on their Marlies success, Leafs will do everything they can to keep Sandin-Liljegren paired together, and with the organization. While the tandem may not stick together at the NHL level, Liljegren has certainly worked hard on his defensive game, to the point, I think, where he is just about ready to handle the NHL on a regular basis.

If Habs are bad by the deadline I could see a Petry trade being possible. That said I would think Gallagher is near untouchable.

I'd rather Toronto hold on to their defensive prospects, rather than send them off in a trade. Toronto really shouldn't be major buyers and tossing away every pick and prospect this season.

In terms of Gallagher's present value to Montreal and rivalry with Toronto I'm inclined to agree. However, neither he nor Petry should be a part of the team's long-term plans if Montreal is going to acquire the talent to compete in the Atlantic. As a Leafs fan, I know the signs of perpetual mediocrity all too well. There's a huge gap between Ottawa, Montreal, and Detroit and the rest of the division in terms of elite skill, and while I love Gallagher, he isn't someone you build your team around

For a team trying to win now, probably not the greatest idea.

1 Year rental vs. guy who can contribute in your top 4 for the better part of a decade.

TBH the Habs have good forwards we just need that one elite guy. I think we need to tank for Lafreniere this year and then we're good. Adding Lafreniere to Suzuki, Kotkaniemi, Caufield, Drouin, Domi and Gallagher would be huge. That's enough high-end talent.
