If Pulju+6th gets you Zacha, does this mean Nurse and a 2nd gets you Hall half retained?

Yeah, it sounds just asinine.

Also man it would be funny if NJ made the same mistake EDM made several years ago - trading Hall to a mediocre 2nd pair defenseman...

Tbh I meant it as an underpay. Hall will cost more than that.

??? Nurse is a good NHL Dman with I believe two more years of control after this season. Oilers severely overpaid on the proposed trade. Dman Nurse has six less points than this alleged LW stud Hall this season.

Don't think you appreciate how good Nurse is, although I think the Devils would want a player with more controllable years.

Nurse is a TOP4 D. Hall is a MVP caliber winger. There's a major difference between them, despite their contract situation.

Also there's an issue with Nurse's contract too. He'll most likely just file for arbitration to get a short deal done with NJ just to get outta there as soon as possible when he gets UFA. No point wasting those good years of his career in a rebuilding team - he has already done it for the beginning of his career. This is also why NJ is most likely after young and potential prospects rather than actual roster players.

I'm just doubting how good Hall is this year, that is what you're paying for on a short term rental. Oilers lose their best Dman in this trade, how much better would be the Oilers be in Cup run with Hall minus Nurse.

Indeed, this is why I don't get why EDM should even inquire about Hall in the first place. That team is too "weak" to move key pieces, and they're not getting Hall without moving one of those.

Think NJ should trade Hall to only a team that would re-sign him. They'd get top value then, and it would actually make some sense. ARI is a good example of that, they have the slot and money to do that.

Look at the Coyotes next year. Even with Hossa on LTIR and a cap increase, they have just 10m to spend, so even the Coyotes might have make some moves next year to sign a big UFA. So many teams are kinda in the same position once they sign their RFAs.

Probably not, if they include assets that free some cap for next year. They are in a position where they can move one of Stepan, Schmaltz or Dvorak with Hayton slotting as 1C.

From the old glue sniffer Jim Matheson

If Holland is still talking to NJ about Hall as rental suspect he's offering Puljujarvi's rights and a second-rounder that would slide to a first only if Oilers make the playoffs. He has no interest in trading Bouchard or Broberg

Hall is two years removed from an MVP season. His return will reflect that. I understand your perspective and you routinely point out why trades aren't worth it because one side has more players with term.

But here's the thing: all rentals are overpayment from that perspective. It's as simple as that. This one will be too

This is not close. Change the 6th to 1st and take out Zacha/Pulj. Thats probably the price now for Hall.

Exactly why Hall is not ending up in EDM. They're not paying what is due to get him.
