Like 1 million times over!

Devil's get a decent winger, a B level prospect, and a late round 1st, for a struggling dman. Plus, we get to save $3.25 mil/year for the next 3 years and $7 mil overall.

I just dont think he would be an improvement to the team, his offensive ability has gone down and his defensive game was never strong. even with retained salary 6m a year is a lot for what he has been producing at.

Yeah. This year he is half as good as Gudas, at three times the price. No doubt. But the caps won with Niskanen at #3D, so adding a puck mover could help, if Subban might get some of his game back? Obviously there's no guarantee he can.

As a Caps fan I'd be more excited if there were 50% retention and if the Caps threw in Gudas for, say, Coleman, Wood, or Zacha? But I'm not sure the Devils want to give up that much to add a late 1st and a prospect who's had some injury issues.

edit: I built a way less loaded offer here: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1545974

It gets them back two 2nd picks, which I think is most of what they paid for him? And they get to swap out their only guy having a worse defensive year.

Caps are too smart to make that trade. Orlov-Jensen is a very good 2nd pair. Subban might slightly improve it. No need to pay that price to slightly improve.
