Not at the moment. He certainly is over his career though.

At the moment, Malkin is carrying his team and out producing Tavares

Exactly. Malkin is having a significantly better season then Tavares. And Matthews, as great as he is, is a goal scorer and isn’t carrying a team the way Malkin has been. If Malkin was healthy all season he’d be in hart contention

I might give him the nod over Tavares at the moment certainly not Matthews.

And yes he is carrying the team and I would certainly have him rated higher than 89, but I would also have Matthews over 90.

Matthews is certainly a lot more than a goal scorer but you are correct. He isn’t carrying the leafs. He is not in a position where he has to. They have a great supporting cast.

Also think Eichel is right there with Malkin for carrying a team and is certainly making a case for the hart.

Malkin healthy would be on pace for 110 points. And that’s with playing 3 games this season with Crosby. Matthews isn’t even on pace for 90 points. Obviously Matthews scores more goals but he’s a pure goal scorer. Malkin has been dominant this season and has really elevated his game since Crosby has been injured.

Actually yes... Matthews is on pace for 90 points lol. And Matthews has been used in a checking role for the majority of the season. He has also been distributing the puck with great vision. Yes he is a great goal scorer but it’s not his entire game.

I completely agree about Malkin. Don’t think you need to knock on Matthews you raise Malkin. He has been a force in the league for over a decade. I don’t believe he ever gets the recognition he deserves.

Still lots of season left to play and I think both he and Eichel could make strong contenders for the hart if they continue their play.

Yeah and I like mathews too. He has great underlying numbers this year. Both are having a great season. I think if buffalo sneaks into the playoffs, Eichal will get the hart, but it’s hard giving that trophy to someone whose team doesn’t make the playoffs. Can’t remember the last time that happened.

Are we really discussing Malkin and Matthews in the same sentence? Matthews has a long long way to go to be Malkins comparison. The continued completete undervaluing of Evgeni Malkin continues I see.

Just talking strictly skill level this season. You are correct. Malkin is completely undervalued constantly. Not my intent here.
