The only way the Canadiens (or any other team) will get him before his contract expires is if he asks to be traded. As of right now, the Oilers are far exceeding expectations and are fighting for a playoff spot. If they decline at all in the next few years (i.e. they fail to make the playoffs) and he becomes frustrated, it is possible.
I'll play along for fun, though. If the trade happened tomorrow, I assume it would involve at least the 2020 1st, the 2021 1st, Suzuki, Caufield, and an established top 6 center, which I assume would be either Domi or Danault. That's two top prospects, two first round picks and a top 6 center - one of which constantly gets mentioned as a Selke candidate. That is the VERY LEAST you would have to trade. Then the argument would be whether Mcdavid alone makes you better. Interesting conversation.
