Blackhawks last resort

Created by: BeterChiarelli
Team: 2019-20 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 30, 2019
Published: Dec. 30, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If the Blackhawks cannot manage their cap issues by the draft, is the return of a top-10 pick and two additional draft selections enough to pry the better Strome out of Chicago? It adds a lot of fuel to their rebuild fire and the Rangers add a much-needed #2C to start becoming competitive again. I modeled the trade after the Dougie Hamilton trade in 2015. Might need more?

Strome and Shestyorkin are on IR in this case as they don't affect the roster for the remainder of the season.

Drop the Lundqvist deal, they’ll never trade him
Swap the conditions on the picks and you got a deal with Bos
Both strome deals make no sense for either team
The EDM deal make total sense, both teams take the deal and run the other way

I take that trade and run! Big problem for the hawks at center right now is we lack a fast, mobile center with dynamic offense. Having said that, this team won’t last or even push forward with BOTH strome and dach. They desperately need speed. We all know they aren’t trading dach.

So yes, if the first is a top ten, and you also give up a 2nd and 3rd, I could be talked into it.

If the Rangers were smart, they would move Hank after this season. They'd do better moving forward with two young, quality goaltenders than they would with one and picks.

Sounds good by me.

Calgary upgrades their center depth and takes advantage of a very weak Pacific division. The Rangers acquire their #2C (and possible #1C for the future) by giving up quality draft capital to a team that's really just starting to rebuild. What are you missing here?

That it does.

That was my thought process. Dach, Debrincat, and Boqvist are what the Hawks are going to end up building around moving forward. Strome is a nice piece to have in that fold, but with how bad the financial situation is and him needing a pretty pricey raise this offseason, they might have to cut bait in favour of selecting another young piece to add to the core.

Kinda hard for us not to be able to resign Ryan Strome, we have the cap next year and hes still RFA take out the condition all together and make it a 3rd in 21

I don't know man, Strome has consistently produced points in Chicago despite him being billed a slow skater. I think the assessment of Dach as a slow skater is wrong as well...

With that being said, If the Hawks had a center that they liked more than Strome in the draft they would do this deal.

I'm convinced that the Blackhawks' actual pick - without considering a lottery win - is destined to be used on Askarov. If they're around the #6 range, they won't risk him not being there at wherever the NYR pick is. If Lundell is available with the NYR pick, does Chicago do this trade?

This is all fair, however, I'm still not sold on either guy having the mobility needed to be superstar centers. Neither brings a significant dynamic edge to the game either. Strome is far too dependent on the players around him (Cat and Kane). Dach still reminds me too much of a winger. The team needs speed so badly.

However, that being said, even if both are able to be fit under the cap, I'd still do the trade. A top 10 pick, a 2nd, and a 3rd for Strome?! I as a fan will pay for the flight to New York for Dylan.
