2020-21 Red Wings Getting better

Created by: tnperk
Team: 2020-21 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 16, 2020
Published: Jan. 20, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Win Draft lotto, finally getting a truly elite player we need.
Pretty awesome goalies available in FA this year, we take a shot at a large size above average Goalie in Markstrom with Vancouver having tight salary cap.
Krug walks for more money after winning cup to end career playing big minutes in hometown.
Unload svech for a pick if possible, may be unrealistic but someone will toss a pick at him or we can let him play in GR
The AA trade is at this years deadline. We take a shot on a center that needs a fresh start and the swap of picks lets us move up a few spots. Stevie gets them to retain some $.
The Palat deal is for cap relief that TB will desperately need. Acquiring a player that Yzerman is very familiar with at a discount.
Buyout the final 2 years of the Frans contract.
Pass on Blashills option for 20-21 and Hire Gallant or in the event that Cooper gets the Axe in Tampa then he would also be considered.
Helm, Filp, Nemeth and Bernier are off the books the following year opening up more space to lock up Hronek, fill the newly opened spots and bring our cap total down after spending quite a bit in the 2020 offseason

Columbus declines. We aren’t good enough to risk that 1st as we are in a wild card spot and a 3 game losing streak could knock us out of the playoffs. We also can’t afford to retain on Wennberg with adding another RFA.

If you changed the 1st to a conditional 1st that Columbus can keep their 1st if they have a top 10 pick and Detroit keeps their 2nd if Columbus keeps their 1st and you’d have to remove the retention.

If Krug is asking 8 mil no one should sign him

The pick could be top 9 protected for this season and detroits 2nd is 32 ovr so its pretty close. Retention will need to be required 750k at least

The guy is a half point+ per game top pairing D-Man that plays 20 mins + and PP, how much less realistically is he going to get on the open market

Don't quote me on that, I've heard multiple Bruins fans saying he deserves 7 mil MAX

BC they know for a penny over 7m a year they are going to lose him. Just like Toronto fans last year were saying mitch was going to get 7-8m.

You think the Nucks can afford to shell out over 6m to a goalie with Petey and Hughes needing extensions and all of the other holes that need to be filled? Demko is the future right? 6 mil+ for a goaile on a time share seems like pretty bad cap use

Then Columbus would have to decline. We can’t afford to retain anything on Wennberg. Adding AA would add another RFA to the team. That list would now include, Korpisalo, Merzlinkins, Gavrikov, Kukan, Anderson, PLD, and now AA. So there’s not a chance Columbus could retain anything unless you’re willing to take Dubinsky back and you won’t do that. So Columbus has to say no.

After retention and signing AA the difference would be a wash just the pick difference which is 16 spots max. AA is only going to get 4m Max

I've read in the Vancouver press that the team is probably going to throw piles of cash at him with some term. With term another team could pull him away.

Krug is good, just not $8M a season good. That’s Trouba money right there.

Statistically Krug is better than Trouba and Trouba never made it to free agency so more than likely that Krugs going to get 8. The term is the big question
