Both deals are awful for Toronto, but even more so, there is no way a trade with the Bruins happen mid-season, let alone ever.

The boston one is too good for the leafs, thats why it wont happen. Bruins decline 10000 times

Kapanen has been a borderline 1 RW by points and goals in the last 1.5 years. As surprising as that sounds.

Since when is 44 points a "borderline 1 RW" LOL thats a borderline 2 RW. projected to get 47 this year. By your logic, brett connolly, ondrej palat, josh bailey, and joonas donskoi are also fringe 1 rw as all players listed have more points than kapanen this year.

yeah idk about that, bruins fans think every player they have the the best thing to walk the earth

I really hope you're not a Leafs fan because this would be hypocrisy at its best.
That being said, Carlo traded leaves a defensive hole wide open on the blue line and no way does Boston do this. McAvoy and Carlo are their cornerstones on defense for the next several years. They'll only trade them if the trade makes them better overall which this one doesn't.

both fo them can play in the top 6, like i said kapanen is the 3rd right winger behind marner and nylander, so he gets the shot end of the stick, he can play top 6 , also dont compare petro to carlo please

just because they can play top 6 with 2 elite centers. doesnt mean they are top 6 wingers. weird how kapanen and mango can score next to matthews and tavares. howd both players do next to kadri whos still a great center just not elite. No these guys arent that valuable to other teams as they dont produce unless they play with those two centers. Look up their line differentials. When kapanen plays with kerfoot, vs when kapapen plays with matthews or tavares. This is a horrible trade for the bruins.

Both trades are brutal for the leafs. Two middle 6 wingers on great contracts for a 13th forward, a below average #4 defenseman, a guy who may or may not be an ok 3rd liner and a late 2nd. 2 ~50ish point wingers for some junk, two maybes and an overrated defenseman. Toronto hangs up

I'm glad you asked!

Since the start of last year, here are RW by goals (and can be resorted by points) http://hkref.com/tiny/vqRkU

Kapanen is tied for 29th with 30 goals
He's tied for 30th with 72 points.

As there are 31 teams in the league that makes him a low end 1 RW.

I'm not trying to say he's some stud. I'm just pointing out most don't realize how mediocre wingers become after the top 15-20. It's a huge drop off.

nordstrom is your typical speed 4th liner, plays pk, blocks shots, good forecheck, gives you nothing offensively. Kuhlman is progressing into a solid middle 6 player himself. Had a pretty decent couple games in the playoffs, hes undersized but fast and can make plays. Boston isnt sending carlo for those guys. nevermind adding kuhlman and a 2nd to the mix lol. We are more than happy beating you if you even make it to the playoffs.

So a defacto RW1 which basically makes him a middle 6 winger. got it. Made my point for me lol.

This is not a good way to analyze players.

I just get annoyed at people using the term wrong. People were originally calling him a third line winger. He's not

He's been performing for 1.5 years like a ****ty first line winger. It's just that people's expectations are unrealistic.

Here's a much more thorough analysis I did years ago

https://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/2011/9/27/2452941/common-misconceptions-how-much-should-that-forward-score

People misconstrue what a second line wingers is. It's a guy scoring 17 goals and 37 points.

My problem with kapanen is that he doesnt really produce with the 3rd line. He needs the elite playmakers i.e. a tavares or a matthews or a nylander or a marner to produce. Same with mango, they are just role players. Sure they can play top 6 if you have another elite talent to shoulder the load. I dont think they will play well apart from elite playmakers.

Where do I find splits? My understanding is they are producing fine outside of those roles. Kapanen is a bit younger and progressing well. He also has one elite skill (his speed).

Jonsson is a little older but did score goals great in Sweden.

But they're both likely good 2nd line wingers. Kapanen with more long term upside and more years of control.

Many do give them more value than they're worth. That's for sure.

But they're likely both worth late (like very late like 25th is) firsts roughly.

See you say they're likely good 2nd line wingers. How do you know when you have 2 first line centermen? i dont remember kapanen or johnsson playing particularly well with kadri.

They did play well with others that's how they moved up the lineup. Kapanen has been good with Kerfoot. He played poorly when they tried to play him on the left side with Tavares to replace the injured Hyman

because he is a true rw. he cant play his offside. alot of wingers cant and dont like switching in general. That being said i just dont value either kapanen or mango as highly as most leafs fans do, im not the only outside team fan that thinks this way.

Many value them overly highly but I'm comfortable with my statement of their value. A very low end first.

thats only because they are young with room to grow. if they were 27 they would be worth at most a 2nd and maybe a 5th.
