Without trading away guys this is what I could see happening.

I have been posting on this site saying that maybe patient's is still the best course of action. This post proves that even without a trade the Leafs are a capable hockey club. Not that this is an overwhelming cup contender but still very much a playoff capable team.

Expecting Muzzin to look for neither term nor a raise is pretty funny.

It is a raise, he's making 4 mil this year. Who knows what a contract would look like with Muzz. Toronto would front load him with lots of signing bonuses, which might that shorter term could still be financially in his favour.

I don't see him taking a 4 year deal. He'd either take 2 or 3 or want as many as possible. The reason is that in 4 years he hits 35, and then his next deal (if he got one) would be a 35+ contract and not have as many benefits for his employer. So either a 5 or 6 year deal with a lower AAV, or a 2 or 3 with a bigger one to try and cash in again afterwards. Up to him. 2 years at 6 per is probably not out of the question.

I really don't see the Leafs depending on Sandin and Liljegren in their top 6 in October. Think they need NHL certainly with a moderate price veteran...maybe on a one or two year contract. As result I think a winger has to be traded for cap reasons. IMO the Leafs should try to lock up some of the RFAs longer term which will cost more $$$
