Labanc is a 40-45 point player. You’re getting a cheap cost-controlled starting goalie that isn’t a dumpster fire

He isnt a starting goalie, hes a decent backup. Every team that overpays for one gets ripped off and we wont do it again.

i'll just go with the simple ones

Lablanc is worth more than Georgiev point blank

Boston is not retaining 3 mil on Backes (they'd end up with less than 2 mil in cap relief)

Thats a really poor description of Labanc, especially considering he is coming off a 56 point uear playing on the 3rd line. He has great underlying numbers too with back to back 56% CF years. Also in what way is Georgiev cost controlled and Labanc is not? Rangers are certainly the team that adds here.

In a word a no....these are all ripoffs. Especially that Sharks deal. Swap Labanc for a 2nd. Then they might consider it. 3rd they’d consider it more. Sorry to burst your bubble but while fans are impressed by small sample sizes and hot streaks I can assure GMs are not. While fans were seeing a future #1 goalie worthy of a 1st or a young 20 goal scorer, GMs saw a backup caliber goalie worth a 3rd and a prospect.

Bruins, eliminate the retention on both sides. Drop the 1st to a 2nd or the 2nd to a 3rd. Consider it.

Bruins trade - I dont like it much from either side. Adding Kreider for a cup run and dumping Backes may both be worthy goals, but they dont belong in the same transaction.
Sharks trade - Lebanc for Georgiev is a starting point but the Rangers would be the team adding. If I'm NYR I'd be ok with a 3rd.
Oilers trade - pretty close to fair but if Puljujarvi is moved if think they would want immediate help for this years playoff run.
Avs trade - Buchnevich isn't close to getting you Newhook and the rest of the deal makes it worse.

As a Ranger fan I think the team that ends up with Georgiev is going to be very happy. But I would agree the Rangers would have to add, though I would say a 3rd.
Believe me, if we didn't have Shesterkin we would never hear a word about Georgiev being traded.

cost to take bakes w/o retention is a 1st round pick and that's without giving anything up (see marleau trade last year). w/ retained you are still likely giving up a 2nd but i'll give you the 3rd rounder.

Cost for kreider is a 1st and a young roster forward. Don't wanna give it up? someone will.. btw the deal helps Boston retain Krug and others next season by eliminating an extra 2m in cap (with the proposed retained salary)..

so heinen+1st+3rd is pretty much the minimum to eliminate Backes' salary next year too

Lol, Marleau has nothing to do with it. Don’t be that guy. Completely different circumstances. Why didn’t the Leafs get a 1st when they took David Clarkson? Completely different circumstances.

Marleau was 35+ contract. Backes is not. No cap relief on Marleau.

Leafs were backed into a corner and had to move Mareleau’s entire contract. B’s can sign everyone next year with Backes still on the team other than Halak who has played and priced his way out of Boston anyway.

Marleau cost more in actual $ to buyout than Backes.

Boston can retain on Backes to lower the cost of moving him. Leafs could not.

Leafs had to and were willing to pay a premium to move him. B’s don’t need to and aren’t willing to.

Marleau was a problem. Backes is an inconvenience

Better comparable. Steve Mason. Was moved with 25pt wing, 4th, 7th for fringe player. So Backes, Kuraly, 3rd for Ebert. Then we’ll trade you Heinen and 2nd for Kreider, no retention. Or you can swap Kuraly and the 3rd for the 2nd and we are right back to the deal i said above. If not, no big deal. Kreider is not the player they need. They have a glut of left shot wings. They need a true RW.

Not to burst your bubble but David clarkson will never count against the cap because he’s LTIR retired. I’d say Marleau really does set the market on terrible one year contracts

That was the point. Different circumstances mean different costs to dump. Marleau was the extreme.

There are plenty of factors. Cap hit, contract length, type of contract, production, health, cap situation of selling and buying teams. Etc, etc. on a scale of 1 to 10, Clarkson was a 1. Marleau a 9, had he had more than 1 year left he’d have been a 10. Louie Eriksson, Bobby, Ryan, Kyle Okposo, Karl Alzner. 8-9, Backes is a 7. Mason was a 6.

Oh, and Clarkson still counts against the cap. All players on LTIR do. Teams just get cap relief and are allowed to go over using a formula. This site just simplifies it, but LTIR is not a magic wand that erases the cap hit.
