Value is ok Guerin might hold out for a better deal because Staal has term and is still very solid.
Thing is Boudreau was fired because Wild think they are a playoff team when they are not, so the only way Wild make this trade is if they have another deal in place to acquire a #1 center.

This is basically a cap dump for Staal, when another team would likely give up a 1st, or at least a couple seconds.

Teams rarely trade #1 centers, not sure where the Wild think they'll get this 1C they're searching for but it's probably not from the trade market.

Maybe Nashville will deal one of Johanson or Duchene but not sure if either of them are really 1C's, not elite ones anyway.

I agree that's why I don't see the Wild moving Staal either.

What do you do with that team at this point?

Me I move everything that moves, but the owner won't let that happen so unless other GMs make real enticing offers I don't see the Wild doing anything. If this team gets blown up I would guess it happens at the draft and over the off season.

Move players with value (Brodin, Dumba, Staal, Foligno mostly) for pure futures. Get as much as possible and ride out the next 2-3 seasons restocking the prospect cupboard and worry about contending for real when Parise, Suter, and Zuccarello are off the books. Hope for some lottery luck along the way.
