That makes sense. Colin White is getting 4.75... It's also not a bad contract all things considered.

Love Pageau!

butttt..... you can't sign him at 5x5 shakes head

It's is right to ask for a career-defining contract. UFA only comes around once..

I truly believe that White is a much better player than whatever he showed us this year.

Needs a big offseason

See ya. Love him to death, but the sens have the prospects to replace him and it won't take 5 years. The Sens could offer him the sun and the moon on a 1-2 year deal and it wouldn't matter, but beyond that the cap becomes much more important, and Pageau becomes a player they no longer need.

Needs to get stronger. He can forecheck hard at times, but he just bounces off of guys.

We'll continue this conversation here... Pageau at 5 over 5 is a great deal. Let me tell you why:

- Home town guy.
- Great defensive centre that can play up and down your lineup.
- Has proven he can play top 6 (even after having a pretty bad injury).
- Stop gap in case Norris/Brown/Lottery pick falter next year.
- Veteran presence
- You need NHL players next year.
- He's only 27
- He wants to stay
- By the time the team becomes competitive again (3-4 years from now), he'll be at worst a 3rd line centre.
- We have cap space galore.

Worst case scenario

- He's an overpaid 3rd-4th line centre for 2 years out of the 5 of that contract.

In 3 years, youll have White, Pinto, Brown, Norris and one of our 2020 1st all above him. Plus there's Chlapik who can play centre and Parker Kelly. No need for him and paying him 5 mill is going to be bad in 1-2 yeras

There is nothing wrong with playing Pageau, or any one of those other guys, on the wing. The best 3rd line by this time you mention, would be a Tierney-Pageau-Brown line.

This is also how you become the next Edmonton and Buffalo with no veteran voices in the locker room. You can't just rush these kids into the NHL. They have no idea what an 82 game season is like and the wear and tear it comes from it.

This isn't NHL20 where a 75 overall rookie develops into an 81 over the summer.

You also have to factor in the 2021-2022 expansion draft and who you want to expose.

Simmer on TSN compared him to Clarkson, in terms of signing a big contract after having a career year (Obviously, I think Pageau brings more as a middle 6 forward but still).

Do you think a team offers him 5x5 on the free-agent market?

I just think that once Norris, Batherson, Tkachuk, and the 2020 1st OA need contracts, it's going to be hard to make it all fit..

Yes. He'll get that.

Who do you think is going to be left exposed in the expansion draft? Are Norris and Batherson are going to get massive contracts in 2 years time? Tkachuk is going to get a big deal, we know this.

In three years time, Ryan is gone. Zaitsev might be gone. Cap space and money are something Ottawa is not going to be lacking in 2-3 years time.

Dzingle also thought he's get something in the 5x5 range. And apparently Ott was contemplating signing to it to !! that dind't work out for him..

Just for the record, I hate this conversation lool because I am a huge Pageau fan.. I am just trying to be unbias i guess...

I'd give him more money for less term

Dzingel also left a lot of money off the table... and he benefited from Duchene. A lot. He's not a bad player, he's just a very different player (never played the PK).

I love this discussion. I love Pageau as a player. I think he brings a lot more to the table than Dzingel does.

You have to think about what this deal means to the franchise and to other guys in the locker room moving forward. I'd give him 5 over 5. Duchene and Dzingel hurt but not as much as Stone... The agent and Pageau won't go lower than what White got.
