Offseason Plan A

Created by: OutCold13
Team: 2020-21 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 25, 2020
Published: Feb. 26, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is plan A to the Wild offseason, as the title would indicate. I've posted a plan B as well in case plan A fails.
The main goals of my offseason are:
To find a future 1c
Find a number 1 goalie
Move a few players who could be blocking younger players from getting a opportunity
Leave some salary cap space to move around if neccessary

The 1C position I'm targeting is Dylan Strome. He is having a down year this year and the Blackhawks are up against the cap to further complicate things Dach has surpassed him on the depth chart at center. Like his brother I think he might really blossom a touch late.

At goalie I would really like to target Sorokin. He should be NHL ready very quickly after getting to North America and since we all heard the rumor that he was traded, it makes it seem like the Islanders would consider moving him. I don't know if Lou would take this deal but I would hope this is close. Otherwise refer to plan B.

Parise and Pateryn are the two vets I would like to move and see if I can free up some playing time for the young guys. Parise I moved in the aforementioned Sorokin deal.
Pateryn I believe wouldn't be to hard to move as long as Wild weren't looking for a big return on him.

Lastly I'm moving Greenway because I don't believe he is ever going to reach his potential, I moved him to the Rangers because if anyone is going to get it out of him it's his old coach.

What makes you think the Blackhawks would trade Strome? A bridge deal would be perfect for both parties. Strome won't match his totals from last year so he takes a 3 year bridge, Toews contract expires in 3 years, Dach and Strome are 1-2 C. It doesn't really make sense for the Hawks to move him, even if they have Dach.

Well if you won't my next proposal is to offersheet him high enough where the Blackhawks can't match

Yeah, but Strome has to want to sign it. Unless you're throwing an albatross-type contract at him, he'd likely turn you down. Trade is the ideal route if you want Strome, hence this being Plan A

I agree on the trade that's why its plan A and I would be willing to do the a deal at $6,341,151 AAV which would also cost Wild their 2021 1st and 3rd, so a little bit of a albatross term would be negotiable. If I had to offer sheet.

I think the bigger issue is the Hawks just match it more than a guy not signing it

It would handcuff them with re-signing other RFA/UFAs. After trading Lehner because he asked for too much term, I doubt Bowman would be interested in matching anything over two years.

Isles pass. Their cap liability is going up. Need to retain more on Parise. We'll just keep Ladd and let contract expire two years sooner if that's the best deal on the table.

Or, we can move Ladd for a 1st+Bellows to someone else and fully clear the $5.5

I suspect this is why ladd for Parise didn't happen kind of a lose lose situation.

I wasn't overly excited at the thought of Parise. He's better than Ladd and usuable, yes. But that contract is far worse than Ladd over the long term. Needs to be worthwhile for us to take him.

If that doesn't work, I'd pay to move Ladd and not take back a contract.

As far as the Wild are concerned they are probably best slowly moving Parise down the lineup until his back is done then put him on LTIR. It will be a sad day but I think that's where this thing is headed.

but they will match. They only have 3 RFAs and 10 million cap space. Someone will get traded opening more and they have to sign a goalie. Strome also would have to sign the offer sheet lol. Why the hell would he choose Minnesota over Chicago? Unless you're going to dangle Strome with over 7 million to really make him think.

I was think 6341151 AAV so under 7 million. The reason he would sign is Wild are looking for a future 1c which I suspect he would like to be. His path is blocked in Chicago. At the very least a offersheet of this value would atleast make life difficult for Chicago.

I would be VERY upset if NYR traded Miller for Greenway. What I could deal with:

Lias Andersson + 4th rd pick
or if you want defensemen back
Libor Hajek (straight up)
or
Rykov (for Greenway + 5th)

I don't think the Rangers have any other assets worth giving up for Greenway...they'll have a hard time protecting him at the SEA Expansion Draft anyway if they did manage to get him.

Miller is a guy I would love to steal from the Rangers, but if the Rangers didn't want to deal him then I'm sure Rangers have lots of assets the Wild would be interested in.

Lots of assets the Wild would be interested in, for sure, but "I don't think the Rangers have any other assets worth giving up for Greenway"

We aren't desperate for a 3rd line LW, considering we have Panarin and Kreider long term, and Lemieux as 3rd/4th line LW, and Kravtsov as a possible future 3rd line LW or RW.
