Canadiens should consider selling off more players for draft picks prior to the draft and complete the rebuild and hopefully Bergevin is not kept around.

Aren't these trades so massively one sided? Devils and Wings have lots of cap to retain their bad contracts. Steen has NTC. Wild ain't trading likely a top 10 pick for 3rd liners.

Steen will get payed 100% of his money. He will never play for MTL. He can go back to STL but for the minimum salary. The Devils and Wings trade i can agree but they can also trade to get better players with high contract. Gourde is an example 5.16M$ for the next 5 year. Tampa could trade him to Detroit for a pick because they need cap space to resign Cirelli and Sergachev.

Why wouldn't you want Bergevin kept around?

So what's is Gourde's motivation to waive his NTC and leave Tampa for Detroit.

I wouldn't say the Wings have lots of cap space, they have 10 players signed for next season @ $45.54M leaving about $36M for 14 more.

Gourde has a NTC. We'll see if has any motivation to leave Tampa for the Wings. Doesn't matter if Tampa needs cap space, if Gourde doesn't want to leave he ain't falling on the sword for Tampa. Is he even worth is 5.16M? His production has fallen in the past two years. Right now he's on a 35 point pace for the season.
