I think you're overvaluing Marner. Marner is great but he's overpaid a lot. I think if the Leafs could pry Fabbro, Tomasino and a 2nd or higher you take it and run. Getting out from almost 11mil would be huge for Toronto.

Even though Marner doesn’t score a lot, he is still a high value player. He put up 94 points last year, would’ve got 93 this season. He generates scoring chances, sustains the offensive zone cycle & is pretty good defensively. I get you don’t like him cuz he plays the same style as Sheary, but he is still an elite player. Just 2 million overpaid.

Yes I like how you guys say a guy who is averaging over a point per game while being injured is overvalued. Leafs only give him up if were getting a top 4 dman on a good contract + a 50-60+ point player

So your telling me he is not good because he can't score 30 goals. even though he had a 90 pint season and is on pace for 90+ points
he got 27 and is still pretty young. Im sure next year he will crack 30 goals

I'm not saying marner isn't a good player. I'm saying guys who net 20 goals a year aren't worth almost 11 million.
You don't build teams around guys that can't put the puck in the net. They are extra pieces. They will always be complimentary to the other guys around them who can score. It's why Matthews is the guy in TOR. He can net the puck.

He's not a goal scorer. No one pays out big money for assists. Don't get wrong. He's a good player but you don't build teams around assist guys on $11 million contracts.
If he was on a 7 or 8 million contract that's different. but he's not.

And I'll tell you the same thing.
Go look at the list of guys making 10 or 9.5 million or above. The vast majority of the forwards are by far, are guys who have cracked the 40 goal mark.
There are reasons for that. They are not just 100 pt players who rack up 80 assists in a year.
The bad contracts you see like Toews, Kopitar are guys that get these descriptions like "they got good hands" or whatever else excuse you want to call it.
