Description
I am assuming here that COL renders Byram needing more time not in the NHL / until later on in the year (9 game trial). - His defensive game still needs drastic work.
Also, the fourth line C suggests a "survival of the fittest" between the three rookies, where if Kaut won the spot, he would play 4RW with Bellemare on C

If they consider moving Graves I hope Detroit gets involved. He's a good young d I sure would like him.

hes not bad at D, but I respect Wqrrior take he has watched him at Giant games. HIs defensive game has improved but its probably hit its limit for what you can do in the WHL for development, he needs better competition to play against

they have to move 1 of Zads or Graves this offseason, just getting too full that Byram or Timmins wont be able to take the next steps.

Give him 9 games in the NHL to see how he does, then put him up against AHL competition to work on his defensive game?

Are you open to the idea of moving both and going at Brodin? Might be difficult to convince a division rival, but my slight overpay might convince them? I think it makes all three of your defense lines very difficult to play against.

pretty sure its NHL or back to junior for him even next year based on his age and having a year of eligibility left. He gets those 9 games and then they have to make a tough call with him based on what league will be best for his development

The CHL and AHL agreement is so bad, does more harm than good for the kids, but protects the CHL to have more marquee prospects to market

moving both probably wont be necessary, having 1 on the roster for expansion bait will be beneficial

he is, but thats what Avs are going to be faced with, losing a good player so do you want Donskoi Zadorov or Francouz as your available best options, go ahead take one, dont over complicate it trying to give other assets just to protect them.

Kaut isn’t a C don’t know why CF lists him as that. The Avs deepest position is C w/MacK, Kadri, Compher, Jost, PEB, Bowers, Kamenev (who I think needs a place where he can just get ice time), and Newhook (who probably goes back to BC). D is also deep, and as Coga16 one of Z, Graves, or Timmins is going likely to be used to net a top 6 winger in a trade and free up space for Byram and Timmins, but also don’t sleep on Helleson in a couple of years. As for Byram my opinion on is that nothing good comes out of sending him back to WHL(offensively what more can he do score a 100?), and unless he is an utter train wreck, he is slotted into the 3rd pairing with Cole and given sheltered minutes (more OZ starts etc...).

Assuming that Yzerman won't move any young prospects, the only player of interest to Colorado would be Mantha.

Would you do a deal around Graves and Mantha? Perhaps Colorado add a decent pick and/or a prospect.

That's a swap of two RFA's at the same age that helps both teams, given that Detroit essentially have no defense signed for next season and would be getting a young top 4 D. Colorado meanwhile would get a top 6 fwd who fits the age of the rest of the core.

It would be good for Detroit to maximise Mantha's value in a trade, rather than spending the next 4-5 seasons wasting his prime years.

Not for Graves I think. Detroit just doesn't have enough talent to trade roster players. Picks sure but that's about it.
