He wouldn't be getting above $4m based on 1 year, imo. A one year deal doesn't buy any UFA years, therefore they are cheaper.

Tell that to Kyle Dubas (look at the Marner and Matthew's deals most of the years were RFA years but no discount). Anything less than 2M and he makes more in the KHL cause its tax free. I'd rather have Mikheyev at 2M or 3M than let him walk.

because a 150-200 mins sample is not statistically significant.

Your argument is akin to saying Kailer Yammamoto is a 70 pt player based off of his performance this year...

All my argument is, is that wherever he has been placed in the lineup, he has produced at the approximately the same pace. That's all I'm saying.

That's a very different scenario, though. The Matthews and Marner contracts are not good, but they are star players and had all the leverage. This is a different case. While, yes, I would like to keep Mikheyev, he is still a replaceable player. I can't see a 1 year deal coming in at more than 1.5ish maybe a bit higher.

Mikheyev has the leverage too. You'd rather him walk than have him at 2M?

I don't see any players at that level with a 1.5M contract that would come without costing an arm and a leg.

If I can get a player to be a decent replacement for half the price, yes. Say if they think that Barabanov (or however you spell his name) can come in and produce at 75% of Mikheyev's rate and they can have him for $925k and Mikheyev is asking for $2m... Sorry Mickey but I'm going to save a million bucks here and allocate it towards the D.

I think you're in the minority. You'd refuse to pay a a guy who'd be playing in our top 6 2 million dollars? Not to mention this would hurt our chances to get future free agents.

I wish you were in charge of negotiating the Marner and Marner contracts. Dubas went 1.5M too high over 6 years. On Matthews he got a year less term than he should have for the AAV.

There is also no guarantee that a $925k player will produce at a 0.45ppg rate (same level of production as Kerfoot and Johnsson)

Did you notice that when Mikheyev went out with the injury was when our win streak under Keefe ended? He also played well on the PK and got the points without power play minutes.

There just isn't a big enough sample size for me to really dish a ton of money out to Mikheyev. If he had another year and did the same, then great, now we can talk. But the whole point of a one year 'prove it' deal is that they make less for the year to show they are worth more. If you want us to concede on $$$ then you have to concede on term. The ideal situation for me is 2-3 years between 2-3 million per.

And yes, I know that there is no guarantee about a what a player can produce, but this is the game that the Leafs are playing. In order to keep your star players, you need to be able to find cheap talent. Dubas knows this and has done a very good job of it. Mikheyev is part of that. They found him, recruited him, he was cheap and if he prices himself out, they start the cycle again. Now, if they don't believe that they can find a decent replacement for him, then it's a bit of a different story. I love Mikheyev and hope he stays Leaf, but decisions have to be made and hopefully he doesn't force their hand.

And trust me, if I was in charge of the Marner and Matthews contracts, I'd have been soo fired.

Dubas doesnt have the balls to let Mikheyev walk. However, Mikheyev seems like a nice guy so maybe he takes a discount to help out.

Johnnson is an undersized, 3rd line winger coming off a serious leg injury. He cannot drive offense, he needs to be playing with a high end forward in order to elevate his point total. Nothing wrong with that, lots of players in the NHL fall into this category. But his value in a normal year is about a 3rd round pick, this year with the injury and the fact Toronto is in a cap crunch and likely no cap increase, his value is around a 4th or 5th round pick. This trade proposal for this year is quite one sided.

Seems like youre overvaluing Johnsson. Theres absolutely no way he fetches a potential 1st + Puljujarvi. Another comment mentioned Johnsson for Pulj + 3rd (which upgrades to a 2nd if he hits 50 points) which i think is much more reasonable

I'd like to find out how good he actually is, the only way that's going to happen is if he gets moved down the lineup or out of Toronto....

But his performance away from Toronto's top guys has not been good by any measure.

On the other hand. Josh Anderson's analytics look good, he just mostly had some bad luck this year.

Jankowski has never actually been good offensively...

Jankowski has been good offensively in 2018/19 he had 14 goals and 18 assists, in 2017/18 he had 17 goals 8 assists. For a 1.675mill player that wasnt bad this year he is just in a rut but could come out of it next season. Johnsson before joining the leafs had a stellar record, won the Jack Butterfield Trophy as MVP of the Calder Cup when he was with the marlies, before he entered the nhl he was named the SHL Rookie of the Year. So pretty impressive stuff right there for a 7th round guy. Sure people argue well he played with matthews thats why he looked good I believe if he played all 70 games he would have probs had a similar record to last year. Maybe not 20 goals but he would have had 40 points.

Those 3 columns on the left are offense. The middle line is league average...thus Jankowski is a below league average offensive player...by a good bit.

He's fine defensively. Just weird to make an offensive argument when we have all the data.

Also. notice the drop in Johnsson without Matthews. It's massive. That's not the case with other players. Nylander's numbers actually improve without Matthews lol.

It was for that contract. 925k per year and that guy was performing like a 3million dollar player. He also is a beast on the penalty kill and is very good defensively. While yes Tampa overpaid for him they were taking a gamble so if the season returns lets see if it paid off.
