I admit I don’t know much about Montour but this won’t happen, Berge is invested in Drouin I don’t think he would trade him and not for a one year contract.

Fleecing Montreal??? flushed cheeks

I've seen Drouin extensively the past couple years, no one is getting fleeced here. Buffalo fans will have their work cut out for them to get Drouin to where you think he is already.

Montour is quite overrated. He does one thing well but can't do anything with it. He is essentially a 3rd pairing transition defenseman who produces nothing on his own.

Just for context sakes, what if the Habs wont he lottery and drafted AL? Then the pressure to keep Drouin may not be as high. Also Montour is an RFA so the Habs could sign him long term if they wanted to.

......................And Drouin is primadonna periphery player that does only one thing well in dangling on the rush. Frankly even then its often at the worst of times that leads to a goal in our own net. Whats your point?

Anyways I don't want to get into argument over what you think of the players but I can guarantee we could make better use of Montour than we can of Drouin.

Maybe I am overrating Drouin based on reputation here but I don't see how Montour would be any better for you

If they won the lottery and got Laffy I think they would definitely move a winger. I think Drouin stays because he’s on a good contract, still hasn’t reached his full potential and cost Berge a real good defenceman to get him. Right now Domi probably has more value, but personally I would move Tatar mostly due to his age and even though he only has a year left he should have good value.

Puck moving offensively minded dman who wouldn't have to play hard minutes and could get matched up against the other teams 3-4th lines? Someone other than Petry and Weber who could bring the offense? I get Montour isn't elite but he is still a decent player.

Drouin is talented but he isn't the right player for MB's culture nor is he the player you win cups with. If he is the guy you expect to be the #1 LW you are in trouble. Just like if you are expecting Montour to be the #1 RHD. When slotted properly both guys can give their teams value. I just need more what Montour gives than I do Drouin. At least in the scenario in my head that is.

What say you guys? Which by the way I'd prefer Ristolainen over Montour and may even be willing to drop the 3rd coming my way and add a late 2nd your way if that swings the pendulum at all?

I dont like Drouin, but regardless of my bias, I wouldnt trade either for Drouin. He doesnt add anything to Buffalo. Sabres need a solid 2C or a goal scoring RWer

Well Habs need is a top pairing LHD like Dahlin but we can't have always get what we want can we? Sticking Out Tongue

I dunno how confident are you can parlay Montour or Risto into what you need? Also maybe its my not knowing about the Sabres depth but That right side seems fine with Reinhart and Oloffson. The you got Skinner on the left side with an open slot for Drouin to either play alongside Eichel or on the second line. Am I mistaken?

Skinner-Eichel-Oloffson
Drouin-Johansson-Reinhart
Kahun-Cozens-Vesey-Mittlestadt-Okposo etc

Something along those lines. Even if you added a #2 center, Johanson goes to line 3 and rotates with Cozens or whomever cracks the lineup, etc.

Drouin is the kind of player we would need. I'd be willing to give up Montour but if we trade Risto I'd prefer to add and get a bigger piece like Domi

I mean Dahlin is a franchise dman. 2Cs are not usually franchise players, its way more attainable. The Sabres D has been fine, theirs no reason to ship them out just to change things up. Drouin really doesnt add anything and takes assets away that could be used to add something they need. Skinner cant score with Johansson at Center, after just putting up 40, how much luck do you think Drouin would have

Well I mean its not like he's playing with elite players in Montreal either. He's shown to be a consistent 40-50 point guy. The talent is there. He could play with Eichel also you know. He surely would put up points with a quality players. Just not as much as the main offensive driver.

Of course not knowing what else options you have in front of you gives a quick easy out to say "I'll look elsewhere" but given we can't exactly ask GM's for input we kind of have to use our community here as reference. Based on that, has anyone made an offer using those guys for a the type of player you wanted to make you think it can be done?

Sabres win this trade, and I'm not a big fan of Drouin.
