That Florida trade with a twist

Created by: Random2152
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 8, 2020
Published: Apr. 8, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The trade is done in two parts because Kerfoot's contract is VERY front loaded. Most of the trade happens before July 1st and Kerfy gets moved after his 1 mil bonus is paid (making him more valuable trade wise).

This means Florida would be getting Kerfoot at a 3.5aav cap hit (10.5mil) and pay him in total 8mil over 3 years.

The roster is the same as my CJ's thoughts one and Is what I expect would be a good projection for next year

I also am pretty sure I only saw one to start with, he may have published then finished it on accident

No I promise I did not. I did add the Calgary trade after I published but the entire point was the 2-part trade and those were there.

Do you have any of your stat sheets for Weegar? I was meaning to save one to my PC but I can't find where it was last posted.

Pro tip: Reading the description and looking at all the trades is sometimes helpful. Keep that on the down low, though, not a lot people realize that. The twist is the timing of the trades and the fact that they are done separately.

Trust me bud I think I know. Not everyone has time to read every leafs fans ramble though so skimming gets the jobs done

It evidently does not "get the job done"

Look it was an honest mistake, I'm more frustrated that you continued to double down rather than checking.

A few. He had a very good year. Hoping it isn't a one off.

Have you got anything from prior years? As far as I've seen he had a good year last year as well, just in a far more sheltered role.

Wow! I needed those charts and now learned of this charting hockey site which is sick. I think my impressions of Weegar and Dermott were outdated. I was like how is Weegar better than Dermott? For some reason I just wasn't paying that much attention to the Panthers... kinda like their own fans. However, they were a lot fun to watch when I caught them vs the Avs. Definitely a team with some beasts on it no doubt.

You do realise it is the same trade right? The same one that is all over CF?
Weegar ~= Dermott (who's age and potential make up the difference)
    Wallmark < Kerfoot
Toronto is retaining salary (but not cap hit) so that adds value

    Therefore Florida sweetens the pot.

BUT REMEMBER, THIS IS ALL ONE TRADE EXECUTED A FEW DAYS APART GOD WHY DOES NO ONE EVER READ THE DESC! I AM LITERALLY JUST RE-WRITING WHAT I PUT THERE

Let's hope Florida actually does this cause our defensive depth will be insane. Now if there is a cbo Toronto should look into aquiring Mayfield and boychuck cbo boychuck. Bam an excellent partner for sandin and his contract will be just the thing for a cap strapped team lke the leafs

This would be a sneaky good deal for the Leafs, but Florida is getting good value back.

I understand the logic in the Kerfoot trade. But to Florida isn't giving up a second to the Leaf so the Leaf can obtain the magically RHD. Actually you would think that Florida/Leafs wouldn't help each other at all in a trade as both teams are battling for 3rd spot (and maybe final playoff spot) in the Atlantic.

Oh, sorry, I only saw the Weegar + 2nd for Dermott and 5th trade lol, whoops - my mistake.

It's good, especially since the owners want pay cuts in FLA. Perhaps a tad too in depth to be likely though?

I've been thinking. Dubas has been quite sneaky while doing this but most of his acquisitions have been trading away expansion draft eligible players and getting exempt ones in return. Neither of wallmark or weegar fit that. On top of being too popular to be a real trade, that fact will be what kills it. If dubas moves the guys he will get an exempt player back. Who that is is a good question but I think it is a sound bet.
