Toronto Maple Leafs 2021-2022

Created by: Vido
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 12, 2020
Published: Apr. 12, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
For trades: I'm not sure the trade partners 2 years for now however, I think this about the value the Leafs would get back on these players. Regardless, this was only for shipping out salary.

Upcoming expiring contracts: Robertson, Liligren, Sandin & Rielly. Hard to say what the move is here but I don't think one of the three dman will be coming back. I can see either a trade of Liligren at year end or a trade of Rielly at the trade deadline or him walking in FA. With Reilly leaving in 2021 I think a top 4 of Sandin, Muzzing Liligren and Dermott will be fine 2 years from now.

The following year the only contracts coming up are Kerfoot, Mikheyev, Dermott and Holl which shouldn't be a problem to get around. Leafs are still in a good position despite the salary cap not going up much.

You gotta read first man, cmon.

How am I supposed to predict trades 2 years from now, I used the trades to dump their salary basically and try to make the value even in terms of picks.

You don't think Petan can turn himself into a fourth line 2 years from now?

He's only 24 and still has room to grow so, I think he can fill out that roll.

Regardless, plug in whoever you like for that value.

Hard to say 2 years from now but, you never know.

I think they can make a backup fit in this lineup on a cheap deal still.

2 years from now campbell and kapenan will still be here, johnsson will be gone, freddie is probably gone, etc.

I don't know, Johnsson just had a really, really bad season. Eight goals and 13 assists in 43 games is pretty sad when you consider he played over 75% of his 5v5 TOI with Matthews. He has some speed and skill so someone will take a flyer on the $3.4M cap hit, but they won't pay any more than a 2nd. And if he has another season like that, you won't have a hope of getting anything more than a late pick and smaller bad contract back.

the johnsson trade is fine the others are the concern why are we trading campbell and Kapenan when they are doing well.

They don't under the cap thats the issue. Try making this roster in 2021-2022 and you'll find yourself in the same position where you'll have to lose players you don't want to. I'd rather not trade them but because of the extensions to Anderson and Hyman (which is what i think are their fair values) you're forced to make some tough choices.

It's hard to say this player will and won't be here 2 years from. For example, you say Anderson probably won't be here yet you never mentioned his replacement? Will there even be a goalie available via trade or FA that makes sense for the team? Maybe and maybe not. Regardless they'll most likely be paying 2 goalies roughly the amount I allocated. If they can find a suitable replacement (or him) on a cheaper deal than of course you keep Campbell.

Same for Kapanen. A third line player that can move up and down the lineup and play on the PK for $3.2M. While Engvall and Mikheyev do the exact same thing and the sum of their contracts almost equals Kapanen's. Would I keep him if I could? Sure, but on a per dollar basis I'd rather have other players.
