Flat Cap No Problem

Created by: ClockReads2113
Team: 2020-21 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 10, 2020
Published: Apr. 15, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Caps in great position if cap goes flat. Around $5M in cap space with 22 players which is a lot of wiggle room.

Wouldn't be surprised to see McMichael make the team and/or Kempny traded but just showing how the Capitals will be fine. Won't need buyouts or trades to make anything work.

It'd probably come down to Copley vs Vanecek for the backup role. I think the Caps might explore a veteran backup, but I think they'll want to keep the cap space available to add during the season.

Sprong offensively is NHL caliber. Defensively, probably not, but having Eller and Panik on his line might help mitigate it.

Vanecek is underrated and the Caps like him. I can see Nuevirth backup ability from him. But if he doesn't work then we know Copley is at least average back up. Also with $5M in space they could add a vet.

People don't understand just how good Sprong is. Dude is easily a 20 goal NHL scorer. Can see him being at the very least the new Brett Connolly for the Caps.

Really going to throw Samsonov out there for 60+ starts in his second season? Goalies typically have to work up to that because of how difficult games get after 50 or so.

I prefer any starting goalie to play around 50.

Ya but that means you need a back up capable of playing 30. Which there arent many of. Just think it's a lot to ride on a young goalie that's only had 20 or 25 games of NHL experience

True. I guess it would be a lot to put on a young duo. Will be interesting to see how they handle it.
